Blackout in Moscow: Russians are surprised that Putin's inability to protect even capital

Ukraine has demonstrated the effectiveness of its long-range strikes against Russia , so this time winter power outages will affect not only Kyiv but also Moscow. This opinion was expressed by former US Marine Corps sniper and International Legion volunteer Matthew Sampson in an interview with Channel 24 .

So, when asked directly whether power outages were possible in Moscow this winter, the military man stated that "this is certainly quite realistic."

"Ukraine has proven more effective in striking Russian infrastructure and facilities that remain military targets. Therefore, in my opinion, it's entirely realistic to imagine Moscow experiencing gradual power outages, very similar to those Kyiv and other cities have been experiencing for many years," he said. Sampson believes that blackouts in the Russian capital will be a clear demonstration to the entire world of "how weak, how small, how vulnerable Russia is," and that it is unable to protect the skies even above the capital, let alone the rest of its territory.

"This will be disappointing for the average Russian citizen, who really has no idea what's going on. But I think it will bring us significantly closer to ending this war. And that's what I'm looking forward to," the volunteer added.

As reported, last September, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that if Russia threatens Kyiv with power outages, the Kremlin should understand that similar outages are possible in Moscow. However, last year, Ukraine failed to carry out this threat. While Russia did manage to inflict colossal damage on the Ukrainian energy sector, the power outages in Russia following Ukrainian retaliatory strikes were very localized and short-lived . Only Belgorod, located in close proximity to the Ukrainian border, fully experienced the realities of the energy war .

This year, Zelenskyy again threatened Russia with a harsh winter . However, this time his threats appear more credible following the Ukrainian Armed Forces' repeated successful strikes on Moscow this summer.
