'Dancing With the Stars' Season 35 Premiere BOMBSHELLS | Previously On

Welcome back to Previously On, I'm Alexa Clone. And I'm Kristen Thule. And we are here to talk about the biggest moments of season 35 of Dancing with the Stars. The season premiered this week. They had actually two premieres, which I thought was pretty interesting. I really liked that they did this though, because it gave us more time to get to know all the boys and then all the girls. Yes, and it really like kind of put you in the mindset of like, okay, like, is this going to be like boy versus girl at the end of this? So you get to kind of highlight each gender, which I thought was pretty cool. Yes. And I feel like the first night I saw people that I thought could win. Totally. And then the second night, I said, I can't wait to see those two people together. Thousand percent. Against each other. Yes. Totally agree. So first night, we had all the boys and I feel like this like kind of shocked me because I didn't really know. I mean, I knew kind of everybody on the list, but I didn't know who would outshine anyone. Obviously, Harry Shum Jr. was like on Glee, Cancer, kind of knew that. Which we knew from the Glee days, sure, that he has this fun experience, but he's been doing Grey's Anatomy for years, so it's a whole different ballpark. Right. Like, has he lost his touch? Right. Yeah, I don't think he lost his touch. But he did not lose a thing. No, he was phenomenal. And I feel like Jenna Johnson, I mean, the girl's got to have some sort of like rig in the game. She always gets such a good guy. Talented people. But I will say, I thought this was funny online afterwards, I was seeing a lot of people talk about there's a swag gap between the two of them. Die. So, I wouldn't be surprised if maybe Jenna saw some of those comments, too, and really even steps up her own game. Maybe. I mean, even like at the end, Harry kind of like body rolled on Jenna. It was a little, I was like, oh, cheeks got a little red. No, I don't think we've seen him do something like that. You weren't doing that on Glee. You're not doing that in the ER, so this is very different. Surely not in the ER, but yeah, and even like Val at the end was like, that last body roll was a little... A little too uncomfy for his wife? Yeah. So, I don't know. I thought he was great. That shocked me. Yes. Ezra Fretsch, too. Ezra was my number one of the night. Totally agree, and he, if you guys are obviously watching, he does have, he's a paraplegic Olympian. Yes. So, he is missing his left leg and some of his left fingers, which they really emphasize that that is so hard because you have to lead with your left a lot of the time, which he was like, I really had to trust Daniela, his partner in this moment, but he fully held his own. He was flinging himself all over the dancer. Oh, yeah. Doing so good. That dancer's leg, they like swap out his prosthetic leg for like a dancer leg, which is so cool. I didn't even realize like, but yeah, I guess you do have like different modes because he's like a track runner, which is a lot different than like, you have to like point your toe and like... Sway and fluid. Yes. But he crushed it. Yeah, he was amazing. And Daniela's such a good choreographer. Well, I think if you have her, you have to ramp it up from the get-go, and I think if this was their debut, I can't wait to see what they keep doing. Same. And he's cute. Yeah, he is. Which helps. And then we had Tyler Cameron. Tyler Cameron, aka Dylan, according to Derek Hough. Which is wild. Yeah. I mean, he does kind of look like a Dylan. I'm sure it's just the first show jitters too, but I love how that has evolved online as well. Tyler Cameron and Dylan Efron teaming up to make videos, mocking it. Cute. So, yeah. Derek making videos, calling everyone a different name later in the day. That's the thing with Dancing With The Stars. It's so funny because I feel like they live in like a la-la land. They do. Where it's like, you could say the most controversial thing, but they're like, it's a family show. And then they're also so online, all of them, that they see everything that we are saying, and they kind of incorporate that into the season as we go. Because I think they like started a rule this year where you have to have a TikTok. You have to like, that's why Julia Stiles has a TikTok. Interesting. Because you like have to promote it. Well, I will say Andy Richter was obviously the TikTok people's princess from last season. And a lot of people are saying it's Guillermo this season. Totally. Totally Guillermo. Wait, he rolled on that floor? Yes. I was like. I saw someone say he just rolled into America's hearts. Yeah. Wait, that's so good. And so true. Yes. At one point, he literally just got on the floor and rolled and I was like, that would be me. Exactly. So it is interesting because his partner, Whitney, is pregnant. So I felt like they paired those two together, kind of thinking their season would end early. I think so too. But now if everyone loves him, he's going to get the votes. He has to. I saw someone was like, she needs to start taking her pre-needles because it's time to lock in. Yeah. So I'm excited to see their chemistry. Obviously they already have it, but just the laughs that they're going to bring us for as long as they're able to be there. Totally. You always have to have one that's like, not like, it's like, okay, they're probably not going to win for technique or anything, but we got to vote for them to keep them there. Right. Nice to see. I agree. Also Jackson Olsen. He went first. He's a Savannah Banana. Savannah Bananas. Kind of. Well, I mean, it's funny because I saw a lot of people being like, oh, he's a dancer. He's a performer. He has like, you know, a leg in the game already, but then he made a video and he's like, this is me dancing and it's him just like, and the Savannah Bananas like shaking his butt. And he's like, I don't know how to dance. They're performers with the Savannah Bananas, but you got to bring the technique for this show. And I feel like he might need a little bit more. He needs a little bit of help. But I am excited that he's with Emma because she has had a lot of tougher partners over the years that don't quite give her the youth and ability that I think he'll give her. Totally. So they could go really far, which I really like that. And they're fun. They're like traveling. He's still playing, which is wild. Yes. I saw he is flying red eyes back and forth to different games. And Harry is also still filming Grey's Anatomy. No way. So they actually have a lot of things that are working against them. I would be like PTO. Sorry. I can't be doing this. I'll take my sick days. The odds are stacked a little bit against them because of their work schedules. But if they can pull it off, even more impressive. And honestly, after seeing their performances, I think they can. They definitely have potential of winning. Yes. Then we saw Conor Wood, who I also was an interesting star to get. I don't. I am a little behind on the Conor Wood score, but I know, yes, he is very online. He has a huge following. So I think that will get him very far because TikTok fans are diehard fans. It's the whole voting process is like you have to promote yourself on TikTok. Right. So he already has that. Yeah. He was a little goofy. Yeah. But it's the first week. So go for it. But he's got a lot of work to do. Yeah. I could see him being. I mean, he's a cutie guy and everyone loves Riley. And I think the two of them being young and cute just matches. Yeah. People are already shipping them. Of course. Love that for them. Yeah. But Riley's taken. Yeah. She's cute with her guys. Yeah. They are cute. And then we had the Hansen. Taylor Hansen. Yes. What did you think? I thought it was fine. I do think it was more impressive than I was expecting. Derek hated his flowy hair. He said, you got to slick that back in ballroom, which I, okay. Good to know. I didn't ever think of that before. I mean, I guess hair does help sometimes. But the Hansen hair is part of what made him iconic. So I'll be curious to see what style he goes with next week. I don't even know. But I just don't know much about him and his partner because she hasn't been back for a few seasons either. So yeah. I think we've got a lot of learning to do on that one. Same. I feel like there is history here. They've brought like old people back. Yes. They've kicked a few people out. Yeah. It's definitely a new switch up. Right. I don't know. It's going well. Yes. And then, but it's not going well for Connor Leavitt. Connor Leavitt. Whitney Leavitt's husband, who she went very far in the season last. Oh, I was so convinced she was going to win. Oh, right. But she was pretty good. But Connor, yeah, didn't make it past the first round and I can't tell you I'm not surprised. No, I'm not surprised either. Again, I maybe thought it would be Guillermo, but it's also like people love him. Right. But it's like Connor Leavitt, like let's just leave it to the way. I don't think the boys from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives have the fans that Whitney had from the same show. They keep trying to make dog talk happen. And it's not. It's not going to happen. I'm proud of him. Yeah. I think he had great energy. You know, he was so happy to be there. He put himself out there. Yeah. Totally. He was just having a good time. Great time. But alas, I do feel bad because he got the, didn't he get the girl that won their competition show? Right. So the show To Find a New Pro, Adele, she won. Yeah. That kind of sucks. I feel bad for Adele. That you get voted out on your first chance as a pro. Yeah. She just went through this whole competition show to get there. And then it's like, oops. Sorry. All that work for nothing. Yeah. A little brutal. But I wouldn't, we'll see her again. I wouldn't be surprised if we see her for years and years to come. Yeah. I agree. Or she'll come back and just be a troop member for the rest of the season. Prove herself there. Yeah. I don't think her season's done. Yeah. But yeah. So Connor ended up going home. That was the first elimination for the boys. And then we got night two with the girls. Which, if I was impressed with the boys, the girls brought it tenfold. Thousand percent. Yes. There wasn't one where I was like, hmm. Like seriously, they all did amazing. They all did a great job. And I think there were a lot of people that thought there would be four short standouts, which there were. Definitely. But everyone was impressive. And everyone you could see where they could go. Definitely. And girls are just like fun to look at. They're gorgeous. Like guys are sometimes a little frumpy. Yes. So it's easier to teach girls like elegance. Yes. It's just the natural thing. Totally. So we had more Higgins and Mark Ballas. Obviously, they were on The Traitors together. They already have their chemistry. Yes. So, and they killed it. They were stunning from beginning to end. Totally. And also, she's so fun. If people didn't know who she was before, they're going to know her now and they're going to love her. Yeah. And I think she's also just such, she's such a fierce look and like on stage face. And she kept saying that she has like no stamina and that she was going to be bad and that Mark didn't think she was good. But I thought she killed it. If she felt any of that, you didn't see any of it. Not at all. Right. I think she could definitely go far. A lot of people were saying that performance is something you would see 10 weeks from now. Thousand percent. Yeah. No, I think she did great. Yeah. And then we had Jenna Dewan. Dewan? Dewan. Yeah, yeah, yeah. With Val. Which there was a lot of drama because she is the star of the Step Up movies. So she obviously has dance experience. And you could tell. You could tell. And her and Val, like Val is such a powerhouse as well. And then Jenna, they always get like the best people. Yeah, they're kind of unstoppable right now. And I would say those two are early favorites to be able to take it all the way. For sure. I think they will like win for points wise. But I think viewers are going to be like, okay, no, like we don't want a dancer to win. Right. So I could see that's like they'll go far for points. But viewers won't really go for them. Yeah, that's a great point. And then this one I was obsessed with. Amber Glenn. Oh. Phenomenal. So good. Honestly, she wasn't really on my radar. Right. And like, I love Posh. I think he's like under, what is it? Like underrated. Yeah. But they did so good. I was not familiar with her at all. Same. But now I am stalking her Instagram. I'm like, what have you been up to? How did you get so talented? Yeah, she's an ice skater, right? Yeah, she's an ice skater. So she kind of has a little bit of the same type of mobility training. But yeah, this was incredible. When she got on the floor, did a little leg thing. I was like, that is nuts. Yeah, she was very impressive. Loved it. Then Giada De Laurentiis. Loved her. She's so cute. She's so sweet. She was so emotional because she said she was doing this for her daughter. Yeah. And I think she was just so proud of herself, too, which she did a great job. Yeah. For the first week and you have absolutely no experience. Like, sure, it's silly. She's like stirring the pot at one point. Leaning into the food part of her life. You have to. Right. But that's also what's going to win over viewers. I think so, too. Yeah. She's just like a little cutie pie. Yeah, she was great. Sierra Miller. She was like an early announced Summer House, the whole Scandal Ball part two that happened. Coming off of the Summer House drama. Yes. So she already had a lot of momentum behind her. And I do think if you're a Summer House fan, you saw her face. And she looked terrified. Terrified. She was not able to relax whatsoever. So I was really nervous for her. But I do think she left it all out there. And now you've got the first week under your belt. You can loosen up and just have fun with it now. I think she'll get more comfortable. That dress she was in, I wasn't really a big fan of either. I didn't love the song choice either. So maybe I'm a little biased and I think she's just great. But it was just a rough one. Yeah, I think we'll see her for a long time, too. For sure. Then we had Tatiana Ali. Yes. So good from the Fresh Prince of... Hello? Oh, my God. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Yes, what she said. Which I don't know why I didn't put it together for the longest time until Alfonso was holding her hand at the end. Where I said to myself, oh, my gosh, they were brother and sister. I just had right out of my head. I had no, I didn't even think about it. I didn't make the connection either. And then I was like, oh. But then I was rooting for her so much more. Same. Because how fun to have your big brother there with you. Yeah, she did. I honestly thought she would go home first, too. I was a little worried as well because I also don't think her fan base, I don't know who that is right now. Yeah, that's totally my same reason. But she did a really good job. And I think she could improve a lot as well. Killed it. Then we have Julia Stiles, who did the Dolly Parton. Quick snap. Dolly Parton tribute, which is so timely. Julia Stiles, again, has dance experience, kind of, from the movie Save the Last Dance. But she has also admitted that they used a double for that movie. So she was kind of coming in with a clean slate, too. But she was electric. So good. I'm glad she's with Ezra. It's like giving like Gen Z with like mom vibes. So then they're like working together. He's bringing her out of her shell. Their energy really feeds off of each other really well. Yeah, I think they could go far. I think so, too. And there, yeah, I think she's just got the fan base already there, too. Totally. With her getting that TikTok, we're locked in on Julia. And then that leads us to our last girl, which is Sarah Jane, either. Sarah Jane. Yes, unfortunately, no longer with us on the show. No longer with us on the show. It is a bummer because she was also paired with Haley. Yeah. Who is the first time, this is her first time as a pro. For sure. She was on The Troop before. So this was really her chance to showcase her talents as well. And unfortunately, that got cut short. It was a cute dance. They had to do a dance for the year they were born. Yeah. So obviously with Sarah Jane being a little bit on the younger side, it's not a lot of classic hits. Right. So they went with Avril Lavigne, which I just maybe think wasn't the best choice. Yeah, I think you might be right. It is a little too uppity. Mm hmm. And that was kind of Connor's dance, too. They had the same kind of weird neon vibe. Yeah, that's a good point. Not very classical. Maybe that's the thing. Just don't go for like neon pop. Right. So that's problem number one for those two. And then problem number two. Yeah, unfortunately, you guys got paired with the two people who are the newest. For sure. And I think that's just a tough boat to be in. Yeah. That you just don't have that level of expertise that's going to guide you further in the competition. Which is a fair reason and the reason I would want to go out. It's like, oh, we're just so new and learning. Like, we'll get them next time. And even if fans don't know the stars, a lot of them have favorites. When it comes to the pros, these two girls don't really have that either. No, they don't. Right. But I don't know. We'll see how this season goes. I'm already locked in. I'm already so excited. I'm very excited. I think it'll be really exciting once we can see the boys versus the girls, because there are strong competitors. Yeah, it's going to be good. I'm just so excited.
