Lions trade rumors ESCALATING...This is Wild!
2 Video Views·Sep 15, 2026
Well, with the events of the past weekend for the Lions, including giving up over 400 yards passing the Saints quarterback Tyler Shutt in that 31-30 victory over New Orleans,
the trade rumors again are escalating with a major move that could be imminent to help bring some relief to the defensive side of the ball for the Lions.
We're going to talk about that and what it could mean in a whole lot more on this edition of Lions Digest.
Hey everybody, yours truly, Captain Lou here. Want to take a moment to welcome those of you checking us out for the first time here to Lions Digest.
And I want to invite those of you that haven't done it yet, hit that subscribe button. It's free.
Help us get to our goal of 1,000 subscribers here on Lions Digest.
And also, want to remind everybody, Thursday's a big day. You all know that the Lions are on a short week.
They're going to be in Buffalo to christen their new stadium.
And we're going to have our weekly live preview show, almost like a pregame show in this instance, here at Lions Digest, 7 o'clock live Thursday night.
We're going to break down all the matchups. We're going to give you our predictions and also include all of your live interaction.
Thursday night live, 7 o'clock, right here on Lions Digest.
And something new we're going to do as well, after the game, a live post-game reaction right here on Lions Digest.
So a big day Thursday. We welcome you to be a part of it right here on Lions Digest.
All right, 31-30 for the Lions over the Saints. We got the win.
410 yards passing to Tyler Schutt. Not really a win on the defensive side of the ball.
Now you couple that with what's going on in Pittsburgh and the trade rumors are escalating again for the potential of landing Joey Porter Jr.,
the disgruntled quarterback, for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Now the rumored trade, of course, is the Lions giving up their first-round draft pick in 2027 for Joey Porter Jr.
Would you do that? I would in a heartbeat.
Now the way it works in Pittsburgh, they've got their own self-imposed deadline, if you will.
This coming from A to Z Sports in Pittsburgh.
Now they claim that if you don't have any kind of contract talks settled by the start of the season,
then you have to keep on with the contract you've got.
And so that means that Porter would have to stick with his rookie deal.
And we know he is not happy with that at all.
So again, his only other option is try to force his way out of Pittsburgh.
Now we all know from this weekend the events that happened as well.
And as Mike Payton pointed out on A to Z Sports here in Detroit,
Brad Holmes cleared over $35 million in cap space for the Lions.
He restructured the contracts of Panay Sewell and Amon Ross St. Brown.
So the Lions now have $38 million in cap space to work with
that could be very ideal with a potential trade for Joey Porter Jr.
So we'll have to keep that in the back of our minds.
So it's there. The opportunity is there.
The question is, will the Lions take it?
So my question to you right now is, with the cap space created over the weekend,
would you make that trade?
Should the Lions make that trade for Joey Porter Jr.?
Yes, no, or maybe hang on and wait a few weeks and see what happens.
So again, with the cap space created from the restructured contracts of Panay Sewell
and also Amon Ross St. Brown, the money is there for the Lions.
It's just a matter of if they're going to use it for this trade
or maybe try to use it for something else like extensions coming up
for Sam Laporta and Brian Branch.
We'll have to keep an eye on that.
Speaking of someone, speaking of Amon Ross St. Brown,
he had a big day talking about passing yardage.
He had a big day receiving for the Lions a couple of touchdowns.
Now they're going up against a defense in Buffalo
that gave up a ton of yards and points against the Houston Texans.
So that's why I'm going to roll with our new partner, Cal Sheep,
and I'm going to vote yes that Amon Ross St. Brown gets at least one touchdown
Thursday night for the Lions against the Bills.
Now with Cal Sheep, you're trading directly against other users,
not the traditional sports book.
You're buying yes or no contracts on the outcomes of sporting events,
politics, or even the weather.
Now again, let's check it out.
If you go with Amon Ross St. Brown getting one touchdown at least for the Lions
in that game against Buffalo, it's trading yes at 44 cents on the dollar.
What does that mean to you?
If you trade $25, you're going to get a nice return of $57.20
at the end of the contest should he get that one touchdown.
Why $25, you may ask.
Well, if you're interested in trying out Cal Sheep,
use the link in the description and trade $25 by using the promo code
and you'll get $25 traded into your account instantly.
It's football season, right?
All the games are trading on Cal Sheep.
Now let's get back to Joey Porter Jr.
with the potential of him coming to the Lions.
Here are his stats from last year.
Not real gaudy, but he's been really consistent
and definitely would be an upgrade for the Lions
in the defensive backfield at the cornerback position.
52 total tackles, one sack, and one interception.
Now let's take a look at the Lions, their stats from yesterday's game.
469 yards of total offense.
410 yards through the air.
Now they got five sacks, which was great.
Two of them for Hutchinson, Barnes got one.
So that part of the game, I thought they looked fantastic.
But they did give up a lot of yards through the air
and this is where I think that Joey Porter Jr. would fit in nicely.
Now let's take a look at the snap count, if you will,
for the game last night.
You can see, let me see if I can bring that up a little bit easier for you.
Campbell, Jack Campbell played all the games
and you see Rakia Sin and DJ Reed and Maddox,
they all played a majority of the snaps.
How confident are you in the Lions
if you think that they're going to be able to do that?
I don't know if they can do that throughout the year.
So I'm not real confident with that.
So I'm saying yes, go with that trade for the Lions
to go after Joey Porter Jr.
Giving up a first round draft pick to me is not that big of a deal.
I think Brad Holmes should cook.
He should pull the trigger on that deal for the Lions.
How about the grades for the Lions
after yesterday's game on the defensive side of the ball?
I've got mixed opinions on it.
At first, I put the backfield as a D.
I thought they played all right.
They got some pressure on Tyler Schutt.
I thought they played okay until about the end of the third quarter.
I don't know if they got gas or whatever.
I give the defensive line an A-.
One of the things on that graph that I did show you
that I didn't mention, Skyler Gilhoward,
he got about half the game.
And how about Derek Barnes having a whale of a game?
Spider-Man.
That's right, he had a pick and a sack.
I tell you, he played tremendously for the Lions.
Overall, I thought the defense played okay,
except for the last quarter, giving up those big chunks of yards.
But that's where I'm worried about with the Lions going forward,
especially Thursday night in that matchup against the Bills,
against Josh Allen.
Hang on, everybody.
It's going to be quite a game Thursday night.
Again, I ask you, should the Lions pull the trigger
now that they've got the cap space available
to go after somebody of the likes of Joey Porter Jr.,
giving up that 20-27 first-round draft pick?
Would you do it yes or no, or will you wait a few more weeks
because we might be getting some bodies back,
Branch and Kirby Joseph, even though they're safety?
Let me know in the comments section again.
All right, a reminder one more time, join us Thursday night.
It's going to be a huge day for us here on Lions Digest.
We're going to have our live preview show again,
as we do on Thursday night.
This is going to be more like a pregame show.
We're going to go over all the matchups for the Lions and the Bills.
We're going to give you our predictions and, of course,
give you all of your input as well into this matchup.
And then join us after the game, Thursday night as well,
as we're going to have our first postgame live show with live interaction
and all of that that goes into the game afterwards here on Lions Digest.
So, again, we invite you to that.
It's going to be a very, very busy Thursday here on Lions Digest.
All right, that's going to do it again.
