Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe Detroit Lions are preparing for their game against the Green Bay Packers following a bye week marked by significant roster changes. General Manager Brad Holmes faces scrutiny after placing three key players on injured reserve, prompting urgent discussions regarding depth and the need for immediate replacements to avoid risking star players.
Well, with the Lions coming off the bye week
and the moves that were made,
they now turn their attention
to the Green Bay Packers and game number six.
With that, major heat again is on GM Brad Holmes
to try to come up with a solution.
We're going to dive into the ramifications of the moves
and the solutions they could make going forward heading
into that Green Bay game
and a whole lot more on this edition of Lions Digest.
Hey, everybody, yours truly, Captain Lou here.
want to take a moment to welcome those of you
that are checking us out for the first time here to the
program and if you haven't done it yet we invite you
to hit that subscribe button it's free come
along on the journey with us
and the lions here in 2026 be a part of the conversation and all the
live reaction and all the programming we got going forward it's going
to be fun right here on
lions digest well the lions finishing up
their bye week getting set now to turn their attention
to the Green Bay Packers next Sunday well
with that being said some moves were made during the
week and it's going to put the spotlight again
on the embattled general manager of the lions
Brad Holmes the lions put three players on IR
on Friday i think you may have heard it by now
Tom Kennedy the kick return punt return specialist Ben Barge
and of course linebacker Devin White
Now, again, we all knew about Tom Kennedy's injury.
You saw it in that Carolina game.
I'm sorry, in the Arizona game.
Looked pretty brutal.
He's out with the MCL injury.
But if you listen to some of the fans already,
they don't have any hope
or any faith in Brad Holmes to be able to make a move.
Lions scrambling to get players five weeks
into the season, that's embarrassing.
And that's on Brad Holmes.
So let's see what that could mean going forward.
now with the IR designations you all know that if you're
on the injured reserve list you have to sit
out a minimum of four games now again let's take
a look at the bye week special checklist then the
Lions they picked up DeAndre Carter we'll talk about that in a moment
but let's get back to that
Arizona game I'm on Amon-Ra St. Brown he ran punts back we don't want
that happening anymore they've
got to have a solution for that first
and foremost i think this is the top priority since Tom Kennedy
went out with that MCL sprain
and uh ensuing surgery he's done for the year so we won't see
Tom Kennedy again at least till 2027
so that goes back to the bye week checklist what do the Lions
need to do they've got to figure out number one
whether DeAndre Carter will fit into that return
specialist role. He's on the
practice squad right now. Chances
are he will be elevated
to the 53-man roster
before the game on Sunday
against Green Bay. Cade Mays
and Brian Branch are
they going to be added to the roster? Are they
going to be activated off the
PUP list, formally off the injured
list? They practiced before Arizona.
They're going to practice next week.
And if that also isn't
enough, we need to know if
Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes
We'll go outside and get some added depth for the Lions.
So many questions that have to be answered.
And again, the Lions, as we mentioned, picked up DeAndre Carter.
Right now, he's on the practice squad,
but I think he's going to be added to the 53-man roster
because, as mentioned right there, another commenter,
I don't want to risk injuring a player like St. Brown or Gibbs,
running back kicks or potential punts.
There is no upside to it.
I absolutely agree with that.
And another look at the bye week timeline.
Three players added to the injured list.
Possible reinforcements with Mason and Branch.
Not really sure about that.
Now, with that being said,
the Lions are heading into their bye week right now.
They're in their bye week.
And, of course, Green Bay is on the horizon.
Now, if you've been following me, I've been telling you to trade yes
on the total points being over whatever it was.
Five for five.
Now, the points haven't been determined yet
for the Green Bay-Detroit game, but the minute
they do, I advise you to bet $25 on, yes,
it's going to go over with our brand new partner
here on Lions Digest, and that's CalSheet.
Now, remember, with CalSheet,
you're trading directly against other users, not the traditional
sports books.
You're buying yes or no contracts on the outcomes
of events across sports, politics, or even
the weather.
now when you're betting $25 on the over
when you're trading yes you're getting about
double your return so you're getting about $50 ish
so back five for five betting yes on that
throughout the season for the Lions
because we all know what their defense is right so why $25
you say well if you're interested in trying out CalSheet use
the link in the description below and
make sure you use the promo code Digest NFL
and with that you will get 55 back when you trade
your first 25 using that promo it's free money all
the games trade on CalSheet all right and
there's no doubt about it right now
as we get back we need Cade Mays back to stabilize the
offensive line depth there's just
no getting around it Ben Barch has done okay but he's been
injured the last couple of games.
But it raises some big question marks for the Lions. They're
going to have depth still when Barch is out.
What do you do with Christian Mahogany? Right now he's
played quite well. His PFF grades are amongst
the best in the National Football League. And also
what about JuScruggs?
He's been playing one of the top positions at center. So this raises a
conundrum and one that I don't know
if we all trust Brad Holmes to be able to make a decision
on. What do you do with Cade Mays?
You activate him, obviously, but do you put him in the starting
role? That's going to be the huge question mark.
And again, he's a standout. The name that stands
out on, whoops, wrong one. Sorry about that.
With Mays' return, again, this could open the door
for him to return to the active roster.
It's going to open the door for him to come to the
active roster now the other question that I have
to ask is what about Devin Mays he's going to go
on the or Devin White rather he's going to go
on the injured reserve list right so he's on the list
hasn't played really well for the Lions he had
a very good game against the Saints but that game
against the Bills was horrible a couple
of penalties stupid penalties I might add and his
coverage wasn't very strong now obviously the depth
and the play of the linebackers that's
really that's been a question mark
and Eric Schlicht says with six linebackers already on
the active roster he thinks the Lions do not need
to add another player in that position group I
don't know if I necessarily buy that as well I think
that they've got to go after and they've
got to do something so I go back to what we asked at the beginning
which loss is going to be the
hardest one to replace is it going to be Tom Kennedy
on special teams Devin White at linebacker
or Ben Bartsch at the offensive line.
And again, I ask you the question one more time.
Do you trust Brad Holmes to be able to make that move?
Do we have the bodies?
For those of you that think we have enough on defense
to overcome the Devin White injury, although he hasn't played much,
I just don't know if I buy that because look at the stats.
Look at how well our defense has played,
although they played better against the Cardinals.
They're still near the bottom,
and we've got some big games coming up against some good teams.
All right, speaking of big games against good teams,
I want to tell you a little bit about
what we've got going on next Sunday.
You've heard of the Manning cast.
