Head of the Presidential Office, Kirill Budanov, assured that Ukraine will not abandon the territories occupied by Russia , but is committed to ending the war. If Russia does not agree to end the war, Ukrainian attacks on its deep rear will only intensify. Budanov stated this in an interview with LSM .
In particular, the head of the OP commented on a long-range drone strike at a distance of approximately 3,000 km in the deep rear of Russia.
"If Russia doesn't cease military action against us, it's clear that it will feel this even more intensely. Our strikes will become increasingly deeper and more powerful," Budanov asserts. He noted that Ukraine will continue to fight.
"She has no other option, because we are fighting for our own – for our people, for our territory, and for our future. The Russian Federation can decide whether to retreat or not. It has a certain amount of room to maneuver in this regard. We stand on our own land, and no one has the right to simply take and give away their land to someone else," Budanov emphasized.
At the same time, according to him, Ukraine is ready for a ceasefire at any moment.
"This is the official position of the President of Ukraine. We are ready for a cessation of hostilities. The issue is Russia's. This is Ukraine's absolutely public, open, and official position. We are ready and committed to ending the war. Of course, under normal, acceptable conditions, not an ultimatum: give us everything, and you'll still be in our debt. That won't happen," Budanov noted.
He also expressed his own vision of the conditions under which it would be possible to reach an agreement with Russia.
"My subjective opinion is that the most realistic option for ending the war, or at least ending hostilities—with guarantees for Ukraine's security—is along the actual front line on the day an agreement is reached. Of course, without any legal recognition by Ukraine of relinquishing territorial control. This won't happen, and no one will do it," the head of the OP emphasized.
At the same time, he expresses hope that a result will be achieved after the resumption of diplomatic efforts to find ways to end the war with US mediation.
"We see that the American side wants this. The Ukrainian side has clearly indicated that it wants this. The question is for the Russian side to determine how prepared they really are. Time will tell," Budanov said. He recalled that he had been involved in negotiations with the Russians since 2022.
"There's nothing new for me there. You understand perfectly well that all the prisoner exchanges and the grain corridors of the past, etc., all took place within a specific process. I have no problem communicating with the enemy. I spent most of my life in intelligence. That's why I learned how to work with the enemy," Budanov stated.
He hopes that when some kind of compromise is found with the Russians, the war will end.
