What happens next in the Lindsay Clancy case? After a mistrial was declared, Clancy’s attorney is now seeking a presidential pardon. Boston 25 News breaks down the legal strategy, what a pardon could mean, and the potential next steps in one of Massachusetts’ most closely watched cases.
The aftermath of the Lindsay Clancy mistrial continues. Today her attorney
Kevin Reddington made a public plea to President Trump asking him to step in on
this case. Today we also heard from Patrick Clancy about conspiracy theories
surrounding the case. Boston 25 News reporter Bob Ward was at court every day
of the trial. You see him live here in the studio and Bob we still don't know
if Clancy will be tried again. You know Kerry after Friday's dramatic mistrial
it's not clear where the Lindsay Clancy case is headed next and while the
district attorney is considering whether he will retry Lindsay Clancy
her lawyer is saying he is open to making a plea deal. And I'm going to
declare a mistrial. It was the mistrial heard around the world. So what's next
for Lindsay Clancy? Plymouth County DA Tim Cruz has not yet revealed if he will
retry the case. On Friday the Clancy jury informed the court that a lone holdout
juror was preventing a unanimous verdict. Lindsay Clancy is charged with the
strangulation deaths of her three Children Cora Dawson and Callen Clancy.
Clancy's lawyer Kevin Reddington claimed Lindsay was in the grip of
postpartum psychosis and was not criminally responsible for their deaths.
Appearing on national TV, Reddington said he's open to making some kind of a
deal. I hope, however, after sitting through this trial and seeing the
evidence that was presented from the government as well as from the defense
that he would revisit that issue and hopefully we'd be able to work
something out that would be acceptable to both sides outside the courthouse.
Conspiracy theories involving Lindsay Clancy's ex husband, Patrick Clancy,
continue to grow, forcing Patrick Clancy to release a statement through
his attorney. Quote, This campaign now fueled by insatiable media coverage
remains at a fever pitch and has resulted in real life threats to his
reputation, livelihood and life. Enough is enough. On September 29th,
both sides are due back in court for a pretrial conference to try to forge a
path forward. Kevin Reddington is even asking President Trump to step in. Mr
President, I would hope that you would consider this young lady type of
person she is, what she's been through and consider a party. But Boston
attorney Peter Ellican tells me that's a nonstarter. The way the law works is
that the president of the United States can grant pardons to people who
were convicted of federal crimes or are charged with federal crimes and they
cannot do anything about a state case. And I've reached out to the White
House and they agree they cannot intervene in a state matter. We're also
reaching out to the Plymouth County D. A. S. Office to find out when the
office might make a decision about moving forward. I'm Bob Ward for your
local station. Boston 25 News. Maybe another trial, maybe a plea deal. Bob,
thank you.
