going on in the land after an
18 year old woman is shot and
killed. Let's get live. The Fox
News Dave Spencer. He's live in
that community as we learn more
about the victim and what's
being done tonight. To help her
family, Dave. Ever. This is a
sad one. By most accounts from
her friends. The victim here,
Monica was a loving sister,
daughter and friend at just 18
years old. She was just starting
her life, just branching out on
her own. And then last night,
she was shot and killed. And
now. At least one friend and
many others are doing whatever
they can to help in any way
possible. We're talking about
18 year old Monica Rokita.
She's being remembered as a
kind, sweet person. Who is
always there when her good
friend Angelina Haas needed her
most. Angelina has created a go
fund me account to help
Monica's family pay for funeral
and other expenses that come
after her death. We're told
Monica was shot and killed at
the landing apartment complex
off Hunter and Central City
Parkway. She was shot and killed
parkway on Sunday evening. Her
friend tells me that Monica
lived with her mom but would
stay with her boyfriend who
lived at those apartments.
We've been told. Police do have
a person in custody for the
shooting, but no details of who
that person is or their
relationship with the victim is
being released. By police at
this time, Angelina says she
met Monica in high school and
immediately became friends,
saying she was like a sister to
her, which is why she feels
compelled to help out in any
way she can. It was the sweetest
person. She has so many friends.
She touched so many hearts, and
it's just why her out of all
people. She was the sweetest,
most caring person. I know
everybody loves Monica. You
know, everybody wants to help
out as much as they can for
funeral expenses. Anything they
need whatsoever. We just want
to help out. She was our best
friend. We loved her so much.
And if you want to help out
Monica's family, you could find
her on our website, Fox two
Detroit .com. Now coming up at
11. I asked her friend if there
were any signs of trouble
leading up to her death. You'll
hear her answer coming up on
the edge for now. Live in
Westland. Dave Spencer, Fox two
news. Yeah, you hear the
friends talking about her. You
see those pictures. You can
just tell how full of life and
how vibrant she was. You really
hope that people can step up
and give whatever they can to
help this family out. Yeah,
people have already. It's
already been up there. It's
only been up there a short time
and people have already donated
money to help out. You know,
just showing how much she meant
to her, her family and her
friends, and she did have just
two young toddler siblings and
some older siblings as well. So
many people affected by this
tragedy. We'll see you tonight
on the edge of 11. Dave Spencer
