Trade Rumors INTENSIFYING...BLOCKBUSTER move incoming....
Sep 7, 2026
Well, the biggest question mark or weakness, if you will, coming into the regular season opener for the Lions
against the Saints is going to be that defensive backfield.
Well, the rumblings out of Motown are saying that there could be a huge trade in the works
that could alleviate some of those concerns for the Lions.
We're going to dive into that and see the ramifications of that trade possibility and more on this edition of Lions Digest.
Hey everybody, yours truly, Captain Lou here.
I want to take a moment, as we always do, to welcome those of you that are watching us for the first time here on
Lions Digest, and we invite all of you, hit that subscribe button.
It's free.
Help us get to our goal this weekend.
We want to get to 500 subscribers here by the end of the weekend, the season openers just around the corner, and we would
love to have all of you in on the discussion here on Lions Digest.
All right, Brad Holmes.
He's faced with a little bit of a dilemma now for the Lions with the injuries, with Tarion Arnold getting let go.
There's some definite needs and a weakness in that defensive backfield for the Lions heading into that regular season
opener against the Saints, while Christopher Knox, who writes for Bleacher Report, is reporting that the Lions are
considering trading a 2027 first round draft pick, or he even suggests they should, for an up and coming cornerback out of
Pittsburgh, and that, of course, will be Joey Porter Jr.
Now, it kind of makes a lot of sense, and I love the reasoning, especially from Parker Hurley from Heavy.com.
He says the team is going to use this money, or this season rather, to decide whether they were going to give an
extension, perhaps, to Tarion Arnold, and I think that Joey Porter Jr. is a lot more dependable than Arnold was with
Arnold's injury, so why not trade for him this year and potentially give that extension to Joey Porter Jr.?
Now, I ask you, what do you think about that trade possibility?
Would you give a first round draft pick for Joey Porter Jr.?
Now, we reported earlier about the big trade maybe for Gonzalez from New England, rather.
This one is a little more palatable, this trade, but I ask you, what would you do in this situation?
Would you give up a first round draft pick next year for Joey Porter Jr.?
Well, either way, I still think with that defensive backfield, in the first eight games, the Lions are still going to
come out with five wins at least, and with that being said, I am going to trade yes on the Lions to win five plus games
this year, and I'm going to roll with our brand new partner here on Lions Digest, and that's Kelshi.
Now, remember, you're trading directly against other users, your peers, not the traditional sports book.
You're buying yes or no contracts in events like sporting events, politics, even the weather.
Now, if you check this out real quick, for the Lions to win five plus games, it's been trending right around 50-50,
maybe a little bit higher, and so I'm pretty confident by the way the schedule starts out for the Lions that they are
going to get the five plus wins.
So if you were to trade yes and trade $25, your return would be $41.19.
Why do I say $25?
Well, if you're interested in Kelshi, use the link in the description, trade $25 with using the promo code
DigestNFL, and you will get $25 added to your account instantly.
That, of course, all the games right now are trading on Kelshi, the NFL, starting in just a few days.
So we mentioned Joey Porter.
He is the subject of trade rumors, not happy with the way the contract talks are going with Pittsburgh.
He's in the last year of his contract, and we suggested maybe trading for a first round draft pick, or trading a
first round draft pick, that is, for Joey Porter and getting him in the Honolulu Blue and Silver.
Let's take a look at his stats, by the way, for Joey Porter, and you can see he's a very dependable starter.
47 games he's played, 41 starts, three interceptions, 165 tackles, and three TFLs.
So some solid numbers for an up and coming cornerback.
He's a lot younger than what we've got to right now here in the Detroit Lions backfield.
We're stuck.
Let's take a look for the Lions, too, at the depth chart situation as we head into this opening game for the
Lions against the Saints, as it appears right now at the cornerback position.
With Terryon Arnold gone, it's going to be DJ Reed and Rakia Sin.
Now, Rakia Sin's played okay for the Lions.
He's stepped up, that's for sure.
But, you know, I don't know if he's really a solid everyday starter.
And DJ Reed, he's flashy.
He's good.
He does the flips, but he's always got these injury concerns, so a little bit worried about that.
The backups, you talk about somebody that you really can't depend on.
Enes Reykstra, Roger McCreary.
McCreary's going to see a lot of action, especially at the nickel with Christian Izyan with his injury issues and his
illness.
The reserves, and who could get a start?
But one wonders, is it good to try to, is he ready?
That would be the fifth round draft pick.
Keith Abney, the second.
Of course, you've got Khalil Dorsey.
And then the surprise cut that's on the practice rod right now is Nick Whiteside.
And we mentioned, as you see, Christian Izyan is going to be the nickel for the Lions with McCreary.
Will probably get the start, though.
Izyan is very questionable for that season opener.
So, also, if you want to take a look at stats for the Lions with the starters at the cornerback position, to
compare them to Joey Porter, Jr.
Here we go with D.J.
Reid.
He's played eight years in the NFL.
Solid stats, not great, but solid.
He's got 112 games, 81 starts, eight interceptions, and also five tackles for loss.
So that means he's averaged about an interception a year in his career.
Now, he's also had 460 tackles, as I mentioned, and 12 TFLs.
I mixed up the stats.
It's five fumble recoveries, and he's had 12 TFLs.
Rakia Sin, seven years in the NFL, 96 games.
He's played 45 starts, so kind of up and down for Rakia Sin.
He looked strong towards the end of the year for the Lions, two interceptions in his career, two fumble
recoveries, a handful of TFLs, and 246 tackles.
So you've got a younger Joey Porter who could step right in and start for the Lions, or would you
rather rely on Rakia Sin or D.J.
Reid?
D.J.
Reid, I love the guy, but I'm just not sold on his dependability.
So again, that's the question I'm going to ask all of you right now.
One more time.
Would you trade a 2027 first round draft pick for Joey Porter, Jr.?
Yes or no, or would you do the pick, or would you do the trade for a lesser pick?
Would love to see the comments on this right here on Lions Digest.
And one more person to keep an eye on too, is a great look from Brad Locker from PFF.
One of the 10 players, the 10 top players in the NFL that are going to be relied upon to step in to
cover injuries, watch for Evante Maddox.
Now I know he's going to potentially start as a cornerback or as a safety rather, but they could
have him slide over at cornerback.
So that could be another depth piece for the Lions.
But again, is he the caliber of Joey Porter, Jr.?
I'm not sure if that's the case.
If it was me, I'd make the trade.
It's much more appealing than trading two first round picks in a second and Sam Laporta for
Christian Gonzalez.
I'd love to trade with Joey Porter or for Joey Porter.
You're going to get an everyday starter and the first round draft pick, if everything goes the way we
hope, it's going to be towards the end of the first round.
So I would do this trade in a heartbeat.
So that's what we're asking you right now here on Lions Digest.
Again, would you make this trade first round draft pick for Joey Porter, Jr.?
