Fox 35 news starts now with breaking news.
Drop the gun. I'm going to shoot you. Drop the gun.
Breaking tonight. We are now seeing the moments before a deadly shootout at a
local police department and take a look. You can see here the 71 year old woman
walking into the Port Orange police station with a gun in her hand. Good
evening and welcome everyone to the news at five. I'm Jack Royer. Police just
shared that surveillance video with us from inside the station. They say the
woman fired one shot inside before being shot outside the police station.
We have learned tonight that woman has now died. Fox 35 Larissa Leon has been
going through this new video. She joins us now live in Port Orange. Larissa
walk us through exactly how this all went down. Well, Jack, new surveillance
video shows the moment 71 year old Linda Carto walked into the Port Orange
Police Department gun in hand right before that officer involved shooting.
Take a look just after eight a.m. Thursday. Police say surveillance
cameras catch Linda Croteau walking into the Port Orange police lobby
holding a handgun. You see the 71 year old walk up to the front desk, speak
with an employee, show the gun and then pace around the lobby and she fires
towards an evidence room where police say staff were standing.
Croteau backs up slowly and fires a second time. Officers immediately order
her to drop the weapon.
Police say Croteau claimed she couldn't hear them. She then walked outside,
loaded guns still in hand. Body camera video shows officers confronting her in
the parking lot. Drop it. Drop the gun. Drop it.
Drop it. I'm gonna shoot you. Drop the gun.
Officers fired three shots striking Croteau. She fell to the ground,
dropped off the gun, but then sat back up. You see her reach back for the gun
and officers fire again. Let's do an approach. She later died as a result of
her injuries.
All right, sat out right now. Outside of the Port Orange Police Department,
there is a boarded up window. Now the Port Orange Police Department says that
their hearts and thoughts go out to the staff inside of the building at the
time, as well as Porto's family. This is still under investigation in Port
Orange. Lourdes Leon Fox 35 News.
