The Miami Heat face a massive decision involving one of their best young players Pella Larson.
I'm here to break down brand new information from a very credible Miami based beat writer
highlighting not only how the Miami Heat feel about this young player but as well as how
he is becoming extension eligible in the coming months which could result in a huge decision
for this Miami Heat team and based off of what they've done in the recent past involving
young players and giving them extensions they may be hesitant but I'm here to tell you they
should not be in any way when involving Pella Larson.
We'll break down all of the moving parts on this episode of Heat Digest but first before
we get to the news and information we do appreciate you clicking on the video but please do us

We do appreciate all the love and support so thank you guys tremendously for everything
but now let's get to it and break down the quotes and the first one is going to come
from Ira Winderman as he would go on to say just earlier today.
While some contend the Heat acted with too much haste in extending Nikola Jovic there
seems to be enough there with Pella to avoid the risk of dealing with free agency.
Larson is eligible for a 4 year extension at a projected maximum of $93 million.
He also has the option to move into restricted free agency next summer where the Heat will
be able to match outside offers.
His extension window is open through June.
So Pella Larson is now become extension eligible for this Miami Heat team.
Is that a good thing?
Absolutely.
Miami should not waste any time going out there and actually signing him and the reason
being is because of what this young man has been able to do through the first 3 years
of his NBA career.
Getting better and better and better every single time he gets the opportunity to and
now as he continues to grow and develop and now putting himself in a situation where this
Miami Heat team is legit and is going to make a run at an NBA title this season he is going
to highlight himself even more and I think Miami should do this immediately and the
reason being is because if you don't do it now and he goes out there and produces at
an extremely high level which a lot of people believe will actually take place his price
tag will go up.
Now the maximum is that 4 year 93 approximately $93 million price tag and that would be a
lot of money to say the absolute least especially when you take into a fact that Pella is currently
playing the final year of a 3 year deal where he's making not even 2.3 million bucks.
Now the reason Miami would be hesitant in order to go out there and actually present
a contract extension to now who is going to be a 3rd year player in Pella Larson is because
of how bad this contract looks that they gave Nikola Jovic just a few years ago that goes
into effect this up and coming season.
In the first year of a 4 year $62.4 million deal as Jovic has done nothing but regress
since signing this contract and it's unfortunate he's still young he has a lot of room to grow
he's only 23 years of age but based off what we witnessed last year this contract does
not look good for the Miami.
Now a lot of teams did not want him this offseason when he was dangled in train conversations
when Miami continued to look to improve via the trade market this offseason and a lot
of it had to do with this undesirable contract that he signed that goes into effect this
year that he has 4 full seasons to play through.
It's a daunting thing to really take on.
For Pella Larson again he's in the final year of that deal he's going to become a restricted
free agent following this up and coming season and honestly I think Larson is going to be
in the run for most improved player maybe 6th man of the year like this dude is going
to be in the position to absolutely thrive this up and coming season which will only
be the 3rd season under his professional belt.
If you look at the progression his rookie year he played 54 games just under 15 minutes
per game he averaged 5 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and he was good defensively.
Last year in 71 games played he played 26.5 minutes and he jumped in every statistical
category 11 points per game, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, nearly a steal per game the blocks
went up a tenth of a percentage who really cares the shooting amount of times he shot
went from 4 to 8 per game he was making nearly 4 games shooting 49.5% on the season from
the field and 32% from behind the 3 point line mind you he wasn't even attempting 3
per game.
This dude has been working out all off season long the only difference is compared to someone
like Devion Mitchell he's not posting it on social media every single day to prove to
everyone visually that he is and has been working out.
When Klay Thompson first got brought into Miami just over a week ago he mentioned Pella
Larson and how he was out in Spain and the work ethic of Pella Larson was absolutely
phenomenal and something that was really taken into account for because of how hard he was
really working how often he was in the gym regardless of where he was in this world whether
it was in South Beach anywhere else in the United States out in Spain anywhere in the
world Pella Larson is in the gym he's working out and his work ethic is on full display
and even the new guys like Klay Thompson have already acknowledged it.
I love the idea of Pella Larson being an extension candidate for this Heat team and I think they
should do it sooner than later and the reason being is because if you don't do it now the
price tag is going to go up and that overall dollar amount is going to get a lot closer
to that approximately 93 million dollar price tag because he's going to highlight he is
worth every single penny especially at the young age that he currently sits at.
He has a lot of basketball to be played out in front of him he continues to highlight
and display his overall abilities whether it's offensively in all three phases rebounding
assisting and scoring and also his ability to defend he is a small forward that can play
the 1, 2 or even the 3 we watched him play the 4 a little bit last year even despite
being undersized he has versatility he has great ability and I think it's going to be
on full display this season there's going to be games where he starts and for good reason
and that starting lineup is going to be terrifying.
Devion Mitchell, Tim Hardaway or Klay Thompson followed by Pella Larson, Bam Autobio and
Giannis Antetokounmpo is going to be an absolute problem to deal with and Larson like mentioned
earlier has the ability to score and if he continues to progress going from 4 points
a game to 11 what can we expect this year 15, 16, 17, 18 points per game while doing
it all rebounding at a decent level if not an effective and great level for the position
that he plays and the size he maintains this is a home run of a signing if Miami can get
out ahead of it and make this extension actually take place early on I know right now the cap
situation is the cap situation but if they did extend him it would not go into effect
until next off season going into next regular season not the one that is just on the doorstep
so it would not really affect this current season and this current years cap which is
a huge positive they can get out in front of this without it actually handicapping this
team and the financials of this team aggressively as they continue to look to bolster this lineup
and bring in their 15th player and fill out this roster to its completion I love the idea
of him possibly being not only a massive factor right now he's listed as the number three
small forward on this heat team the number four shooting guard and the number he's not
even listed at power forward but we know he's going he has the ability to play at the position
because we watched it last year he should definitely be the number two small forward
for this heat team without a shadow of a doubt the number one guy coming off the bench for
this heat team and I truly do believe we'll go through our expected awards for this heat
team where they will rank the overall win totals and everything else that goes into
this season in an episode closer to the actual start date of this actual regular season beginning
but I'm telling you right now pal Larson should be absolutely in the running for most improved
player as well as six man of the year depending on the role he actually maintains with this
heat team and the only reason I say that is because there's a real world where he's not
the sixth man and where he has to be a starter because of how great he actually is he's not
someone that lives and dies by the three-point shot he can put the ball on the ground he
can go to the free throw line eight to ten times a game and be extremely effective in
doing so knocking them down at a high clip finishing amongst contact and not being scared
of that contact that guy got hit in the face more times than I think any player in the
association last year and again he did play in 71 games he did play roughly 26 and a half
minutes per game but he wasn't the biggest name he wasn't the guy that never left the
floor he wasn't like a bam on a bio in that sense I think he is in in route of a huge
season and I think Miami should get ahead of it and bite the bullet give him that contract
extension and not even try to put him on the same page as someone like Nikola Jovic because
he it just feels like it is a huge polar opposite of a difference between these two players
let me know down below do you think Miami should get out ahead of this and sign the
extension now with Larson or do you think they give it some time and let him prove there is
not going to be any form of regression this up-and-coming season thank you guys for watching
I'll see you guys on the next episode of he died
