🇫🇷 Paris Trams | All the Lines

Paris, like many other cities around the world, had a very extensive historic tram network that was ripped up around the mid-20th century. However, unlike many other cities, it rebuilt another very extensive tram system, which today serves a large part of the Île-de-France region. Having opened in 1992, the system today operates 15 lines with no interlining that cover 196 kilometers. That number is still set to grow a lot with many extensions currently under construction. It very well may be true that one day this system will be the biggest of its kind in the world. The reason it’s been able to grow so much is that, unlike other tram systems, this one was conceived to serve as circumferential transit rather than a dense system in the city center. Tram lines connect radial rail lines in the periphery as well as many residential areas that wouldn’t usually have rail access. Some lines also use old rail lines that didn’t have enough demand for a heavy rail service. These are known as tram-train lines and operate more as an express service. I’m not sure they’d be too useful for tourists, but if you ever find the need to use them, I do recommend them since they’re cheaper than the metro or RER and provide a pretty reliable service.
