On the night of August 28, several Russian regions came under drone attack, with explosions heard in Yaroslavl and Engels in the Saratov region, where the occupiers' airfield is located. Local governors and OSINT public groups reported this. So, Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Yaroslavl oil refinery using FP-1 drones, according to Fire Point. The Yaroslavl oil refinery is one of Russia's largest oil refineries, with a capacity of about 15 million metric tons of crude oil per year.
The facility produces gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and other petroleum products. According to online reports, a massive fire broke out at the refinery following the drone strikes. Recall, the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery in Kstovo suspended crude oil processing on August 26 following a strike by a Ukrainian drone.
On August 25, Ukrainian drones attacked the Afipsky oil refinery in the Krasnodar Krai. As a result of the attack, a unit for the joint processing of gas and gas condensate caught fire. Drones also attacked the Samara region of Russia on the night of August 22, resulting in a confirmed strike on the Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery, where a fire broke out. In addition, on August 21, drones attacked an oil refinery in Perm, Russia. A massive fire broke out at the facility.
Saratov Region Governor Roman Busargin warned of a UAV threat. The Russian news outlet ASTRA reports that residents of Engels are complaining on social media about explosions and drones in the sky. The OSINT channel Supernova+ published videos showing drones flying overhead, explosions, and smoke. The authors report that the Engels-2 airbase, specifically its helipad, was under attack.
