AI GeneratedThe Minnesota Timberwolves have signed Jonathan Kaminga to a two-year, $13 million contract. This strategic move, facilitated by Tim Connolly, provides the team with valuable depth and a motivated young player. While Kaminga has areas for improvement, his fit with the current roster and his defensive capabilities make him a significant addition to the team's championship aspirations.
So today we begin with breaking Timberwolves make perfect signing as the whole Jonathan
Kaminga saga has finally ended with good old Tim Connolly pulling off yet another great deal.
And I guess the question about whether or not head coach Chris Finch wanted Kaminga
has officially been answered. Welcome back to the Timberwolves digest as always
North America. I'm Dave Dubois and I bring you the latest Minnesota Timberwolves news
trade reports, trade rumors, and of course a whole lot of commentary.
Now I've been joking for about a week and a half that the Jonathan Kaminga saga to the
Minnesota Timberwolves was a lot like the Godfather the movie. Every time I turned around
I kept getting pulled back into it and finally a decision has been made.
Congrats goes out to the Minnesota Timberwolves Jonathan Kaminga and of course Tim Connolly
and head coach Chris Finch. Kaminga signs a two-year 13 million dollar deal and for those
mathematicians in the audience that's 6.5 million bucks per year. By the way,
Kaminga when he was with the Golden State Warriors actually turned down a contract
extension that would have paid him two years at 30 million over two years. So
the you know Kaminga experiment and trying to get more from the market at this point
clearly hasn't paid off. But that doesn't mean this is a bad thing for Jonathan Kaminga at all.
Quite frankly I think this is a great opportunity for both the Timberwolves
and for Jonathan Kaminga. There is quite frankly nothing like a motivated National Basketball
Association player who truly wants to get paid on your roster. We're going to cover all sorts of
aspects of Kaminga joining the Timberwolves but first I want to know do you believe Kaminga
makes the Wolves legit contenders? I want to know what your thoughts and opinions are North America.
Please go ahead and drop them in and if you are new to the Timberwolves Digest please go and

Now we've talked a lot about Jonathan Kaminga potentially joining the Minnesota Timberwolves
now that he's here I think there's a couple things that we should revisit that are going to
be important if Kaminga is ultimately going to succeed with the Timberwolves in this upcoming
season. First of all he's a he's a good fit as we all know the three point issues are probably
something that's not going to go away but quite frankly the best way for the three point issues
to go away for Jonathan Kaminga and the Minnesota Timberwolves is to not have him
shoot a ton of threes. The cost the amount that we're ultimately playing 6.5 million
per year for a two-year deal certainly makes a lot of sense for the Timberwolves and there is
a tremendous amount of motivation on Jonathan Kaminga's shoulders. Kaminga could have gone to
the Lakers he could have gone to the Trailblazers he probably I heard this the other day could have
gone to the Chicago Bulls and gotten paid more at all of those stops I just mentioned. He ultimately
I believe chose the Timberwolves because he wants to win and I also believe he thinks working with
Ant-Man and LaMelo Ball will be good for his overall career. Now in Golden State of course
Kaminga was the young guy on a veteran basketball team and now that Kaminga is also going to be a
young guy on a fairly young basketball team I think the fit is a little bit better for Kaminga
than it ever was with the Golden State Warriors. Now of course Steve Kerr was driven nuts by some
of Kaminga's antics and quite frankly I'm sure head coach Chris Finch will have some issues
down the road but Kaminga has proven over the past couple years that his D is pretty good
and his biggest issue on defense is lapses off the ball. So if he's covering somebody directly
Kaminga is going to do a good job. If he's covering somebody that doesn't have the ball
sometimes Kaminga gets lost. Head coach Chris Finch and the Minnesota Timberwolves coaching staff
will spend more time with Kaminga on that than on his three-point shooting. Trust me Kaminga is
no longer after he's been with the Timberwolves for a month or two going to have lapses off the
ball issues that he had plaguing him throughout his career in Golden State and in the 16 or some
games he played with the Atlanta Hawks. I would love to get your thoughts your opinions North
America but look this really is a great fit and the way you ultimately win a championship in the
NBA and the way you go pretty far in the playoffs if you're not going to win a championship is with
depth and quite frankly being able to put Kaminga into the starting lineup means that the Minnesota
Timberwolves as a whole are going to be able to be deeper than they would have been obviously
without Kaminga on the roster. In other words some of the other players that at times we thought
were going to be forced into a starting role are now going to be afforded a little bit more time
to develop coming off the bench. Now these NBA seasons as we all know are pretty long 82 games
and depth is one of the keys to success in the National Basketball Association. It's not just
about having three or four really good players like the Miami Heat have it's actually about
having eight nine ten players deep that you can trust when the playoffs start and when we look at
this Minnesota Timberwolves roster from top to bottom there are nine ten players that head coach
Chris Finch is going to be able to trust if the playoffs were to start today. So I'm super excited
about this deal. I think this was a deal that is going to show a lot of dividends for the Timberwolves
in the upcoming season. A lot of this is going to be on the shoulders of Kaminga and being ready to
work because ready to work is exactly what Ant-Man and LaMelo Ball and the rest of the Timberwolves
have been doing all offseason. Kaminga shooting buckets with a bunch of people at a YMCA is not
the same as getting ready to work in the NBA. So it'll be great to see Kaminga get down to business
over the next month or so with the Timberwolves roster get familiar with everybody. Quite frankly
I think the Kaminga deal moves us a lot closer to being true title contenders than we were
before the day started. I would love your thoughts, your opinions North America. Thanks so much
for tuning into the Timberwolves Digest. As always, I'm Dave DuBois wishing you all
a tremendous rest of your sports viewing day.
