Near Vishneve in the Dnipropetrovsk region, soldiers from the 5th Assault Brigade repelled an assault by Russian troops in conditions of virtually zero visibility due to fog. Ukrainian troops operated jointly, deploying infantry, ground-based robotic systems, FPV systems, and heavy attack drones. As a result, the enemy assault was thwarted, and about 40 Russian soldiers were killed.
The Ukrainian attack aircraft that held their position emerged from the battle alive.
"Position held. Mission accomplished," the soldiers added in the caption to the published video. Ukrainian forces have restored control over nearly the entire Dnipropetrovsk region, with only the area around the settlement of Dachne still under Russian occupation as fighting continues, Suspilne reported. Ukrainian troops are continuing operations aimed at pushing Russian forces out of the remaining occupied territory and restoring full control of the region. “Control over the Dnipropetrovsk region has not yet been fully restored. At present, the area around the settlement of Dachne remains under occupation. Fighting continues,” a General Staff source told journalists.
The development comes amid an ongoing Ukrainian offensive in the Oleksandrivka sector, which began in January 2026. Since the operation started, Ukrainian forces have liberated 26 settlements across the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions, according to the General Staff source. The latest battlefield situation leaves Dachne as Russia’s only remaining reported foothold in the Dnipropetrovsk region, while Ukrainian forces continue fighting to remove Russian troops from the area and restore full control over the region, especially the city of Pavlohrad . When Russia launched its full-scale invasion, the city of Pavlohrad in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, roughly 75 kilometers from the front line, became a relatively safe haven for those fleeing the war further east.
But as the war drags on and the range of Russian weaponry increases, those living there fear their home now faces the same fate as cities in neighboring Donetsk Oblast, many of which Russia has reduced to rubble. Before the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, Pavlohrad had a population of around 100,000. Now, nearly 20,000 are those who left their homes in the front line area and moved to Pavlohrad, according to Kashtalian.
Roman Buhayov, an evacuation worker with the East SOS charitable foundation, told the Kyiv Independent that people are still arriving in Pavlohrad and that it has not lost its strategic importance as a vital evacuation and humanitarian hub for the Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Donetsk oblasts.
