Ukraine is rapidly building a unique arsenal for an ever-evolving war, equipping its armed forces with drones, robots, and autonomous interceptors designed to detect and defeat Russian threats with minimal human intervention, Business Insider reports .

As the publication notes, Ukraine has significantly fewer troops than Russia, so it is increasingly using drones and robotic systems. These allow it to perform some tasks without deploying troops to the front lines, where even routine work can be deadly.

Robotic systems are already performing a variety of tasks: transporting cargo, protecting cities, and searching for and destroying targets on the front lines. The authors noted that in 2025, one of Kyiv's top defense priorities was the production of small fiber-optic attack drones. These were resistant to Russian electronic warfare systems. Upon returning to Ukraine, the journalists noted that these drones were receiving far less attention this year, as the country focused on other next-generation combat technologies.

"Ukraine is currently actively investing in the production of ground robots and interceptor drones, and we've seen both types of systems in action. The country is also increasingly finding ways to launch drones from other drones, creating a fleet of carrier platforms that operate on land, at sea, and in the air. Other systems are becoming increasingly autonomous, incorporating elements of artificial intelligence, which are completely new to warfare," the publication writes.

As noted in the article, the Ukrainian military industry is moving beyond individual drones and toward networks of unmanned systems capable of conducting reconnaissance, striking, intercepting targets, and delivering other weapons to the battlefield.

"We saw new first-person view drones that use Starlink to maintain communications in the face of intense electronic warfare; unmanned speedboats capable of ramming ships, exploding, and launching weapons; interceptors designed to pursue jet-powered, disposable attack drones; and ground robots capable of retrieving wounded soldiers from combat zones that have now become too dangerous for medical teams," the journalists shared.

With each new combat innovation, drones are increasingly changing the way war is waged.

"Unmanned technologies perform reconnaissance and precision strike missions, take on cargo delivery, fundamentally change naval combat, shape battlefield maneuvers, and redefine the approach to assault operations. Meanwhile, pilots and operators, forced to master entirely new combat skills, wage war behind screens and control panels—like a terrifying video game, but with very real consequences that can mean life or death," the article states.

It has been noted that small quadcopter-type drones are creating "kill zones" several kilometers wide along the front line. Ukrainian medium-range drones are causing serious damage to Russian logistics in the rear, while long-range strikes from both sides of the conflict have significantly increased compared to last year, causing destruction far from the front line.

"The war is dragging on, but revolutionary innovations are emerging that will have a long-term impact far beyond this conflict," the authors conclude.
