The Most Complex Pottery I've Ever Made

The Most Complex Pottery I've Ever Made

Aug 20, 2026

Here are some new pots. Yes, their base forms are very similar to many of the angular bowls I've made in the past, but this week, I'm experimenting making some decorative, highly trimmed shapes that were thrown in a rather unconventional way.

When I last made a batch of these, I tried to throw the "rough" ledges around these in the same instance I threw them. The results weren't completely to my liking, their inside forms were interrupted by where I had to press the walls out and it left them feeling somewhat inconsistent and unintentional.

This time though, I'm utilising a new method! Essentially, the base form is thrown excessively thick and then, after the clay has turned entirely leather hard, they can be trimmed back to my liking, with the lines revealed in locations of my choosing. It's fiddly work and a task that's tremendously easy to muck up but so far, I rather like these unorthodox pots.

I'd love to hear what you think, and as always, thanks so much for taking your precious time to watch!
