How This Jun Teapot Turned Deep Blue in the Kiln

How This Jun Teapot Turned Deep Blue in the Kiln

This one came out much darker than many of the Jun pieces we’ve been making.

Under soft light, the glaze shifts between deep blue, indigo, and almost black, with subtle variations appearing across the body.

That is part of what keeps us interested in Jun porcelain. The form can be carefully controlled, but once glaze, temperature, atmosphere, and fire begin interacting inside the kiln, the surface develops a character of its own.

For this teapot, we kept the shape relatively simple—a low cylindrical body, compact handle, and short rising spout—so the glaze could become the main visual element.

Sometimes the kiln gives you dramatic reds and purples.

This time, it gave us blue.
