AI GeneratedThe Toronto Blue Jays are experiencing a positive stretch, currently 11-6 in their last 17 games and closing in on a wildcard spot. Recent updates include key pitching roster moves, the return of Spencer Arrighetti from injury, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s expected return from the IL, all contributing to high team morale despite a recent loss.
The Jays just got some wild news, and despite yesterday's disappointing game, the Jays
are on an absolute tear as of late, and we just got a massive update surrounding one
starting pitcher that has huge implications going forward for this Toronto Blue Jays team.
Quite frankly, it is some very good news.
I'm going to write down that good news and discuss what it means, but not only that,
the Jays have made a move that has many fans fired up, and it involves a pitcher.
I'm going to break down that move as well as discuss the latest surrounding the standings
and where things currently stand in the minor leagues with a couple of notable players knocking
on the door of a call-up once again, but before we get into it all, a quick reminder to hit
that subscribe button.
You guys have been an absolute beast with the support, and it truly means the world
to me.
Obviously, today is an off day for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Vibes are pretty good.
Obviously, they lost yesterday, but the vibes are pretty high right now, and ultimately,
the Jays are in a playoff spot, and we're playing meaningful baseball, and that's,
I don't want to say, all you can ask for, but given where they were just a week or two
ago, we're in a pretty good spot, folks, but let's dive right into the news, and I want
to start with the move that happened before yesterday's game, before I dive into the new
updates surrounding an interesting name that dropped late last night into this morning,
but let's start with the move that had a ton of fans pretty upset, so it was Brendan Little
being reinstated from the paternity list and active yesterday with Ricky T optioned back
down to triple-N.
I just wanted to touch on this because, obviously, Ricky T made his MLB debut, looked pretty
good, went an inning and a bit, gave it five outs, ultimately, right, so an inning and
two-thirds, gave up a couple hits and a run.
It wasn't the best outing, but it was very, very solid, right, and the peripherals looked
good, but Ricky T got optioned down for Brendan Little, and this had fans pretty livid because
Brendan Little's been bad this year, and it didn't make it any better that he came out
last game and gave up back-to-back barrels to give up a run to put the Yankees in the
lead, so I do want to dive into why they actually did this.
Obviously, you can't have Ricky T, Brendan Little, and Mason Flaherty all in the same
bullpen.
Three lefties is a little bit overkill, even though you're going up against, at the time
yesterday, the Yankees, and now the Rays starting tomorrow, which are left-handed heavy teams
in general, or at least have a handful of lefties.
I understand why they did it, right, and the reason is what I just mentioned, and you can
see here from Keegan Matheson, which ends up being pretty important to the plot here.
He said, he's been optioned with Brendan Little returning.
I'd expect Tiedemann to get another shot this season, especially when rosters expand from
26 to 28 in September, so for everyone waiting for Ricky T to come back up, it'll be when
the rosters expand in September, and it lines up pretty well with that, so I do ultimately
think here, when he does return, it's going to be, or sorry, when he, you know, in the
next couple weeks, or a few weeks rather, when September call-ups are available, he'll
be one of the first names called up, because he looked really solid, he has the peripherals,
and they wouldn't have called him up in the first place if they didn't think he had the
ability, and they just wanted to give him a quick test in the MLB to see how he performed.
Performed pretty well, but I know a lot of people are a little bit upset that Brendan,
less about Ricky T being sent down, because obviously a lot of people understand it's
just kind of the way it is, but specifically, the old Brendan Little experience, I'm not
a huge fan of.
You can see from Brendan here, his demotion time for a recalling roster expands September
1st, that's where the demotion time lines up with.
Always felt like he was just here until Little came back, because the current bullpen can't
really accommodate a 1-2 inning arm with 2-3 days of rest between appearances, and that's
another thing.
With the way that Ricky's schedule is right now for rehab from Tommy John, after he pitches
one inning, two innings, whatever it is, and it's usually been one inning, he has the rest
for 2-3 days.
So they're not pushing his arm to where he pitches back-to-back nights, or even twice
in three days, so for now, until he's on a bit more of a more fluid schedule that aligns
with the MLB, I guess, they probably just wanted to call him up, use one of the call-ups,
which doesn't really matter, because you get five call-ups, or whatever it is, before taking
the waivers and all that stuff.
Regardless of that, on the service time stuff, they just wanted to get him up, give him experience,
and then send him back down, because he's not going to be able to pitch now until Tuesday
or Wednesday, and it makes sense to have a lefty.
I don't know if Brendan Little is the one that I would go out and be over the moon to
see, but he's been okay before yesterday.
I don't know, I'm not a huge fan, but we'll see.
That's the reason Ricky T got sent down, for everybody who is curious, because a lot of
people were curious.
So hopefully we get to see Ricky T again soon, though.
It was very, very fun, I guess, is the word we can use when he was out there.
But we also have a ton of other pieces of information that is crucial.
Now, obviously, yesterday, the Jays lost the Dylan Seastar, but won the bullpen start against
Cam Schlittler.
That's how it always goes with the Jays.
It's wild.
But regarding that fifth bullpen spot, there is a pretty notable update here, and Spencer
Arrighetti made a rehab start with AAA Buffalo yesterday, where he went three and two-thirds,
gave up two runs on three hits, one being a homer, one walk, and three strikeouts, his
fastball averaging only 90.5 miles per hour compared to his big league average of 92.4
this season.
Now, you might be saying, you know, Nick, that's not amazing numbers.
Why is this such good news?
Him pitching is fantastic news in a rehab start.
He obviously went down with, I don't know if it was a foot injury or someone correct
me down below in the comments, but an injury that, again, they need Spencer Arrighetti.
If he can come back and actually give them innings, he's a very solid pitcher.
He's not going to be someone who's going to be, you know, Cy Young finalists or all-star
caliber, at least right now.
But the Jays kind of need a fifth starter.
The bullpen game, it went well.
I don't know how sustainable that actually is.
So if you are the Jays, see Spencer Arrighetti be able to actually pitch in the minors now,
I'd say, again, he only pitched 50 innings, or sorry, I wish, 50 pitches, and his fastball
below was low a little bit, but that was his first start back.
Give him a one or two more starts and then get him into the rotation.
Maybe they try to speed him up and just call him up immediately and don't give him any
more.
Who knows?
But I'm not a huge fan of the bullpen games.
They've been doing them all year, and the bullpen in general was decimated.
It's one of the reasons that you could argue that they lost yesterday's game.
Obviously, Braden Fisher gave up the two-run home run to Spencer Jones, I believe it was,
in the extra innings, and in extra innings, sorry.
So the bullpen, it feels like we're constantly playing keep up with the bullpen.
So this is really good news for Mr. Spencer Arrighetti.
Another piece of good news I want to dive into that's not being talked about enough
is that Vlade's been on the bench the whole time.
So if he actually had a concussion, he obviously was placed in the IL for concussion-like symptoms.
It wasn't confirmed at all that he actually has a full-blown concussion.
It seems like he's going to return at the end of the seven days, which is just in a
few days now.
I think Friday is when he's planned and set to return or around there.
So correct me down below on the exact date.
It's a little bit early this morning, but Vlade, he looked in great spirits, was a part
of the the Fantasy Velo Fest thing competition that they had going.
He wasn't throwing, obviously, but he's, I'm sure, a team captain or at least involved
in the antics.
So he looks good.
Spencer Arrighetti's back.
It's good news all the way around.
And continuing the good news is the Jays being 17 in the last 17 games, being 11 and 6.
So I know a lot of people were upset yesterday about the loss and how it was brutal and all
these things.
It was pretty bad.
But at the same time, the Jays ultimately got help out of town from the out-of-town
scoreboard.
So you can see here now the Orioles somehow are back in a wildcard spot, even though selling
off everyone.
Rangers lost again.
The Jays now are only one game back of a wildcard spot.
And we've been talking about how many teams there were in between the Jays and a wildcard
spot.
They leapfrogged the Mariners, the Guardians, the Twins, and the Tigers in the last week.
They're all absolutely plummeting.
You can see the Tigers have lost three.
The Twins have lost three.
I mean, the Rays did no favor to the Blue Jays as the Orioles just took care of business.
And if the Rays would have beat the Orioles like we all kind of expected, the Jays would
have been even closer.
But at the same time, it's all good.
The Jays are 61 and 65, just two teams between them and the wildcard spot.
They're in an extremely good spot.
And if you're a fan of out-of-town scoreboard watching, here you go right here, you can
do so tonight.
So today, it's Baltimore versus Tampa going for Tampa Bay, Detroit versus Pittsburgh going
for Pittsburgh, Atlanta versus Minnesota going for Atlanta, with Texas, Cleveland, Seattle,
and the Blue Jays all off.
So enjoy the out-of-town score watching.
And a couple other things as well, Dylan Cease, he obviously got his two on the strikeout
yesterday.
So congratulations to him.
And he said he's proud of his durability and that he keeps all the balls.
This year has been the biggest jump in development, or has been the biggest jump in development
I've had in a long time.
It's been a lot of fun and really exciting.
So vibes are high, folks.
Down in the minor leagues, some guys are knocking on the door.
Keep an eye out on Sean Keyes' video on him coming soon.
Thank you guys for watching.
Your absolute piece of the support.
We'll see you later.
