Recent moves include the surprising release of Connor Seibold and the optioning of Lazaro Estrada. The team is weighing options for the final relief spots and potential infield changes while preparing their starting rotation.
We have some big news going today.
The Toronto Blue Jays have made even more moves this time.
One surprising move in particular.
And as the Jays continue to make moves and approach opening day,
they have made one that not only has big implications going forward,
but has now forced the Jays into an impossible
decision following new reports,
revealing some wild information surrounding
who they're going to be selecting for their opening day roster.
We're going to break that down as well
as break down some comments from Kevin Gausman and others
regarding how they're feeling ahead of opening day
and some prospects yesterday in the prospect game
that went absolutely insane you're going to want
to stay tuned to the very end of the video before
before you get into it a very quick reminder to hit
that subscribe button if you're excited for opening day
which is just a few days away now smash
the subscribe button now ladies and gentlemen the
spring training slowly but surely here coming
to an end the jays roster is going to be finalized
and i actually suspect that it's going
to be finalized here very very soon i expect some more
moves to happen today so stay tuned
for a potential video if that does happen but they're
forced into a very important decision here
and let's just start with some moves that happened
yesterday and one of them is surprising
so Lazaro Estrada was optioned to the buffalo roster which
isn't super uh you know surprising
but Connor Seibold has been granted his release and is now
a free agent and if you've been watching my videos over
the past few weeks this is a guy who stood
out in spring training a little bit didn't have
the greatest numbers but had an increased tick
in his fastball there was a whole article made
about Connor Seibold from Shy David i he like
everyone thought that he would probably have
a good chance at making the team but he is now a
free agent which means he wasn't going to make
the team now he was obviously a non-roster invitee
but fans are a little bit we're a little bit surprised
by this you can see did not expect
him to let Seibold go wow and that's
because they've been talking about how they want depth
out of the bullpen and Seibold can go multiple innings
and now all of a sudden they have multiple
decisions to make both on the position player
front like Davis Schneider and others who I think
Davis is going to make the team
but also in even almost bigger news right now the bullpen front
and they clearly have a have something
in their mind now there's a couple guys that make a ton
of sense now that Seabold is gone
we can see here from Martin Zwing Seabold had a release
clause in his minor league deal that was exercised still
in the mix for the final Blue Jays bullpen
spot Chase Lee, Adam Macko, Yerry Rodriguez, Spencer Miles
and Angel Bastardo adding from outside the
organization is always possible too
so looking at who's left now Angel Bastardo is a very possible
option here for the last bullpen spot.
Yerry Rodriguez is familiar if they want to go that route.
I mentioned the DFA him a while ago.
Adam Macko, the lefty who pitched for Team Canada
in the World Baseball Classic, looked
pretty, you know, looked good at times for sure.
Chase Lee, though, seems like a pretty obvious option as well here.
They have some big, big decisions to make.
And let's break down a couple of them.
So Chase Lee this year in the in-spring training,
six and a third innings, zero runs given up
with four strikeouts.
He looks really, really good.
And quite frankly, folks, this is kind of an exciting guy.
Now, he's a little bit older.
he's in his mid-20s he's 27 years old
but he's someone that the Jays have been you know keeping
on on their you know radar and they clearly
valued him more than Connor Seabold because
they wanted to grant or rather they granted
Connor Seabold's release but as you look at
a report from Mitch Bannon now
this was from a couple days ago before they let Lizardo Estrada
put him down but with Lauer starting the season
in the rotation the Jays have a clear need for
length in the bullpen they'll likely carry someone
like Lizardo Estrada or Chase Lee at the back of
the relief group two players who could get five
or more outs but multi-inning outings from Louis Barlin
could also ease the burden so it seems like
their decision here is going to be Chase Lee which is uh
you know i don't hate it uh Angel Bastardo's
looked extremely extremely good at the uh you know
in spring training thus far
and ultimately here folks let me know down below what your thoughts
are who you think makes the most sense
because we do have the rotation also being announced which
we can dive into now briefly Kevin Gausman Dylan
Cease Eric Lauer Cody Ponce and Max Scherzer so that
is the rotation to start the season
so we are getting Eric Lauer and i believe this is an order
so we are getting Eric Lauer like we covered yesterday
in the opening series against the Athletics and
you have Ponce and Scherzer against i believe who i
was the Colorado Rockies they played next so
i mean things are happening now like the regular season
is right around the corner which sounds a
little bit crazy but it's kind of the way it is at this juncture
because of obviously them making
the world series and the jays ultimately going
to game seven like the offseason is shorter but
there was a report here i'm circling back
to who they're going to be taking out of their bullpen
which matters a lot with this rotation because
of course they're going to need some length
feel free to pause and read the whole thing
but this is from Shad Vis's article recently it
says two spring training games remain
and this was from a couple days ago but the Blue Jays are
legitimately unsettled about what to do with their final bullpen spot
and Schneider said every inning
is important and the decision will come down to probably today
which is Sunday now Chase Lee
obviously has looked really good Connor Seabold
who's now released was in consideration you have
some other guys here and you know they seem
to like Chase Lee you can see there what I really
liked was the strike throwing, I like the four seamer
at the top of the zone for the broken bat
they clearly like Chase Lee so he seems to be the guy
and as you look at the bullpen now and what
they're looking like I mean you know Chase Lee's gonna
be the guy who probably gives you some
length you know Angel Bastardo they have two spots now
and it's gonna be an interesting intriguing
next 24 hours we're probably gonna see
a big decision made actually today so if that happens
again I'll make a video on it but they
also have another decision to make and that's in the
position player front where Mitch Bannon goes
on to say that Carlos Mendoza who joined the Jays in
minor league deal this winter is another depth infielder
who has made a good impression posted
a near .400 on base percentage
in the tigers upper minor league system and the strong play of
Mendoza and Kasovich provides Toronto
with enough infield depth to risk waving Leo Jimenez who is
out of options so folks they might DFA Leo Jimenez
in exchange for Mendoza because Josh Kasovich now
has officially been sent down
but Carlos Mendoza actually made a video covering him super intriguing
prospect and i'm not super high on Leo Jimenez
at this point he showed last year an inability to hit
at the major league level was dealing
with injuries he can play some decent defense but
this team needs some uh they need some versatility now i'm
not saying Davis Schneider is going to be
gone or anything like that i think
at this point davis schneider is safe though a lot of fans are
calling for it they do have a decision
to make surrounding davis schneider surrounding some
other guys and they'll probably start like i say every video
with davis schneider on the team and
then ultimately you go from there depending on how he does
but uh ultimately here ladies and
gentlemen keep an eye out for carlos mendoza
as well of the of the toronto blue jays making a
strong push with the potential of Leo Amentas being let go
so let me know down below what your
thoughts are on these roster decisions
who you would pick personally but we also had some other
impressive uh kind of things happen to keep
in mind Josh Casanova was sent down there a couple
days ago but let's dive into some prospect stuff
because yesterday we saw in jojo parker's
pro debut a very good very good debut obviously has increased
his OPS to 2000 in his one game
sample size which jokes aside he looked really good
though laced a single up the middle he had
one hit which is 110 miles per hour off the bat
which is crazy he also spoke to the media and
said that uh and for those unfamiliar jojo parker
is the recent first round pick that was the first
round pick from the year before last
when of course they had that horrible 74 win season
i believe it was 74 wins but regardless
of that Jojo Parker looks really really solid put on a
bunch of muscle from his time since his time
in college it looks fantastic and i'm happy for him
because it's it's kind of exciting stuff to see
these young guys and the Jays have a really good
farm system for the first time in a while it's still
not amazing amazing but it's slowly getting
better we also saw Gage Stanifer play really really good
in the spring breakout game three
innings zero hits for four K is touching out
or topping up and touching almost 98 miles per hour
and you can see Keegan Mathesen going
on the bottom to say he's the Blue Jays number six
prospect that could turn himself into a rotation option by 2027
when Gausman, Bieber, Scherzer and
Lauer are free agents so in a year from now we might
be talking about a time where it's like
Trey Savage, Dylan Cease, Gage Stanifer,
and then, of course, you'll get some more guys signed.
It's an exciting time to be a Jays fan.
I mean, we have baseball coming up.
We have some prospects who are looking really good.
There's prospects to keep an eye out on the entire season,
decisions to be made.
It's an exciting time.
So let me know down below, what decisions would you folks make?
Obviously, Myles Straw is on the team.
Nathan Lucas is on the team.
Jesus Sanchez, and also Juan Sanchez looked great yesterday.
So many moves to be made here,
and I'm going to keep you up to date every step of the way, of course.
But yeah, Seabold is gone.
A little bit surprising on that front.
And of course, we'll see now who comes in.
Before we wrap up, though, Kevin Gausman.
He's saying he's feeling even better than he thought he would.
Finished the spring training in his last start
with five innings pitched, 78 pitches, 49 for
strikes.
Folks, baseball's here.
If you're excited, smash that subscribe button.
You guys are absolute beasts.
See you guys later.
Cheers.
