AI GeneratedThe Detroit Red Wings are facing a period of significant organizational chaos. The team is struggling with a delayed GM search, a lack of alignment between ownership and management, and internal friction involving captain Dylan Larkin. With training camp approaching, the franchise is in a precarious position regarding roster management and leadership.
GM search which is wrapping up soon by the way we're going to do an update on that as well to new reports like this one that came out over the weekend that apparently in 2024 and this is where we'll start
at this point so there's no world like no it can absolutely happen he's still in the contract
but he cannot return as the captain if they moved on from Stevie Y not this offseason but last
offseason where we've seen of course a lot of friction start we've seen Dylan Larkin speaking
about the team if he moved out at that point and Larkin said hey this is the last hurrah you got
to impress me and I'm staying here then sure yes you can bring him back but after a captain
player a guy that was supposed to be the hometown hero comes out to say I don't want to be here
there's no way in hell that you can bring this guy back and the fact that they're making moves
to try to please them it's a situation that's just going to end in a bad way I mean if you're making
moves maybe you start friction within this group if Dylan Larkin's here you move out guys you're
selling off guys and you're going as far as firing people then maybe people are looking
and saying hey why are we not getting the treatment that Dylan Larkin does of course
the captain of the team song that's been here for a long time you respect what he did up to this
point but you cannot bring this guy back with a C on his chest nonetheless to start the season
because if you do it's going to be a similar situation Brady could just cause such a storm
in that senator's locker room they're still trying to mend and put that back together
so there's no point to bring this guy back play him for half the season he still doesn't want to
be here he'll show it on the ice that just drops the value and again leaves the sour taste in
management and ownership in the fan base to the players mouths that you honestly might spend years
trying to recover from again this goes back to initial report on this same show that this came
out heading into the weekend they were talking about how apparently Chris Illich wanted things
given to him basically in a different language he wanted Steve Eisenman to be talking in analytics
to use numbers he wasn't able to do that a lot of people would argue that you need a hockey guy
still and people that know hockey and I do agree with that but that's why I've been talking about
certain guys like Evan Gold for example there are smart hockey minds that are hockey people
that know how to use analytics and apparently Steve Eisenman did not and I can understand why Bill
Larkin would be frustrated and want to request a trade because you're not making the playoffs you
don't know how to build a good five on five team all these things you're not leveraging the numbers
that's the direction that they have to go in and there's been a lot of talk over the last
couple days of hiring you know going a different route maybe hiring baseball guys because that
sport's so analytically driven right and bringing them over to hockey people hate that idea
that is where the sport is going so it's not necessarily a bad thing to at least teach some
of the other hockey people in the organization I guess but that's where the sport is going it
really is you're going to have to know how to interpret that right to be able to speak about
that you know translate different information that way so it's going to be interesting to
see what happens and the last thing we'll leave you with is the brand new report from Elliot Freeman
that the Red Wings management search it's at a point where it could get ramped up I've been
at this point but Mark what are your thoughts on that I mean we are headed in we're less than two
months away from the start of the regular season Dylan Larkin is still a Red Wing which he might
be but I don't think he can be captain they don't have a GM yet and now you're getting reports about
how there's zero alignment in the organization which is the worst thing that you could possibly
have I mean training camp starts in exactly a month for most teams going into September from
now this is now a group that not only has guys that are RFA still not signed a captain they have
to trade they need to figure out this general manager I understand you want to get someone
that's going to be the perfect fit but you're pushing so far back a lot of the best fits are
already signed and of course you can get an analytical guy that has been a hidden gem within
the league that people are going to talk about but there is it needs to be figured out soon ramping up
is not good enough it needs to be resolved within the next week or two because that only gives you
two weeks to make the biggest trade in franchise history and sign an RFA that they can't let
walk for nothing at any point yeah that is signing ever you're training by yourself
it's different camaraderie being around the guys all that stuff so they need to figure all that
out and let me not sugarcoat it this is a disaster this is a disaster it's not great
there's chaos right now it doesn't look good they have to figure this out very very quickly
and it can turn around very quickly that's the beauty of it that is the beauty of sports
right so there could be a lot of optimism in the door very quickly if i'm not here
but uh we don't see it right now we do not see it right now let us know how you feel in the
comments below vent vent all you want in the comments i know people are not happy about
everything that's happening right now last thing i'll say steven santos saying probably a good
thing that didn't end up happening but outside of that i think it really highlights how much
chaos and disorganization there is within this red
