AI GeneratedThe Miami Heat are facing a narrowing window in free agency to finalize their roster. With several targets already off the market, the team may need to act quickly. The discussion focuses on two realistic, defensive-minded options—Haywood Highsmith and Bruce Brown—who could provide essential depth and utility to the squad.
The Miami Heat have a golden opportunity at their hands. As more and more days go by,
options come off the board in the free agency market leaving the Miami Heat stuck
to possibly force their hand and make a decision impulsively. I'm here to break down two names we
have not discussed yet this offseason on this channel and how they could be realistic options
for this Miami Heat team after news broke yesterday of a few different names coming
off the board the Heat seem to be interested in. I'll break down all of that on this episode
of Heat Digest so let's not waste any time and get right to it breaking down the news
and no we are not going to discuss East Group B and how Miami is in for a hell of a run this
season through the NBA Cup setting but more like this. Bradley Beal went back to the Los Angeles
Clippers and if you noticed he signed a two-year 13.2 million dollar deal. The Miami Heat were
never going to get anywhere remotely close to that price tag for Bradley Beal not because as a player
he's not worth it but because he's coming off a substantial hip injury where he fractured his
right hip last year only played in what four games ended up missing the remainder of that season
rehabbed the majority of this offseason as well as dating back to when the injury actually happened
and now it seems like he's working his way back he will be ready for the NBA season this up and
coming year but again how much faith do you really want to put in someone Bradley Beal that granted
when he was healthy when he was right back in his Washington days and even in his Phoenix days
was a prolific scoring threat. A lot of substantial injuries have now been taken on
dealt with and how much faith do you really want to put into him especially in the Miami Heat
setting where they're trying to round out these last few roster spots with a limited amount of
in the sense of getting a decent if not a substantial amount of production
not only in specifically in the sense of point scoring wise but the ability to handle and
facilitate to basketball and really be that point guard everyone really wants to see. Now the second
name is DeMar DeRozan now he is still on the board despite this fake report from a fake
Shams account. I know this went this broke yesterday and I promise you every single person that saw it
believed it. It was being reposted and it was like oh it's good to see DeMar going to Golden State
oh I can't wait to see I'd love to see that the Golden State Warriors actually went out and got
Steph Curry somebody. It is not real it is not Shams real account. Everyone got got yesterday
to say the absolute least. So who are these two options we have not mentioned surrounding the
Miami Heat that could be a really result in a golden opportunity for this Heat organization.
The first one is Hayward Highsmith someone who has a tenure in Miami already that then departed
because it just didn't work out cap wise and just it they went in a different route just over a year
ago and Michael A. Scotto on X or Twitter goes on to say the Phoenix Suns have waived Hayward
Highsmith league sources told at hoops hype he was partially guaranteed a 1 million dollars of
his 3 million dollar salary for the 2026-2027 season the 3 and d forward has averaged 5.4
points on 38 three-point shooting and 3.1 rebounds in six NBA seasons. We all know who Hayward
Highsmith is but the big news is he was waived by the Phoenix Suns which makes him an unrestricted
free agent and in a perfect position for the Miami Heat to go out and acquire especially when you
take into account he can play the forward position he can be a perfect backup to someone
in Andrew Wiggins who's just a glorified version of Hayward Highsmith I hope that's not crazy to
say and the contract would be extremely extremely cheap again the numbers aren't going to jump off
the page at you but we all know his defensive abilities are extremely sustainable it's
something that he can really do in his sleep and he can be an absolute lockdown defender
while again not shooting the basketball a bunch whether it's from three points the three behind
the three-point line or just in general he still has the ability to knock down a high percentage
of the shots he actually does take and again you go to the specifically his Miami Heat tenure
five and a half points two rebounds one assist just under one steal and just under half a block
per game and the guy was shooting 37 and a half percent from behind the three-point line as a
of this Miami Heat team on two and a half attempts per game and then overall nearly
four and a half or we'll call it four and a half field goal attempts overall per game
shooting 45 percent he is not going to kill you in the sense of his ability to score the basketball
but he still does maintain good abilities and plugged into the seat organization where he
could be a backup small forward fill in for minutes when Andrew Wiggins needs a breather
it would be it would be like Andrew Wiggins never coming off the floor because yes Wiggins
has more offensive capabilities and without a shadow of a doubt I'm not going to argue that
but defensively these two players are eerie similar and they have great great structures
they have great athleticism great athleticism they have great ability to move their feet
laterally slide their feet get over and above screen on screen and roll actions and just be
an absolute a nuisance on defense to any ball handler or anyone on opposing teams again finally
to round out the conversation surrounding Hayward Highsmith he was waived on a two-year 3.8 million
dollar deal one million of it was guaranteed he's going to sign for a very small amount of money
and Miami could be a perfect fit for him again going back to 2023 the numbers were really really
good he played in 68 or excuse me 58 total games I hope I'm reading that correctly the font is kind
of small on my end I'm going to actually do one of these 68 total games I'm sorry again uh it's
38.5 percent from mine the three-point line the defensive metrics at the bottom are absolutely
phenomenal he does foul a little bit but again it's nothing substantial so the second name another
defensive option with decent offensive capabilities and that is Bruce Brown another unrestricted free
agent as his one-year contract with the Denver Nuggets has now expired it was a one-year
three million or yeah three million dollar deal and it is now over and he is considered an
unrestricted free agent and no one has really there hasn't been a lot of attention given to him
again if you go back to June 30th of 2025 he signed that one-year deal with the Denver Nuggets that
has recently expired and honestly I'm not opposed to this like Bruce Brown has I guess yeah it
clearly has better offensive capability and specifically numbers so then someone compared of
like a Hayward Highsmith but it's not exponentially better but I will say he can shoot the three-point
shot at a pretty decent clip on more attempts than Hayward Highsmith than we saw and also the
defensive abilities are really really good as well if you look at last year he played in all 82 games
he only started in four of them but again he played 24 and a half minutes on six and a half field goals
a game he made three of them shooting 47 and a half percent overall the three-point numbers really
really down compared to in years past only shooting one and a half per game making less than one
but the overall field or three-point percentage sits at 38 and a half last year I think in a
situation where he could be plugged into this Miami Heat organization and play off some of the
substantial names that are currently already involved he could really blossom into a better
three-point shooter and also just find more offensive capabilities to slash and get to the
painted area and finish amongst contact as he is not the largest human being of all time but he's
definitely a bigger dude and gives him great good abilities when slashing to the painted area last
year again total lines eight points four rebounds two assists one steal per game and again the
shooting numbers are not horrible the biggest question mark is the free throws 76 percent
especially as a two guard is not great but I will say if he was plugged into Miami I think all of
his numbers could inflate especially if he was able to take on that starting two guard role or
really just be used as a utility piece where he could start in some games come off the bench some
games and be a legitimate second string option if need be both offensively and defensively for this
Miami Heat organization so I leave the question to you who would you rather see in Miami a return
of Hayward Highsmith or would you rather see them go in a different direction and bring in someone
new like Bruce Brown thank you guys for watching again let me know down below your thoughts and
opinions on the conversations we had in this episode of Heat Digest and I will see you in
the next one again thanks for watching
