In the backyard of her home in Amsterdam-Duivendrecht, Nicole Michael takes on a project most homeowners would leave to a professional crew: building a permanent concrete swimming pool from the ground up. Working largely with her own hands, she transforms an ordinary garden into a carefully engineered outdoor retreat, beginning with excavation and a reinforced concrete base before raising the walls with hollow concrete blocks.

What starts as a rough opening in the earth gradually becomes a compact plunge-style pool designed for relaxation, cooling off, and making the most of a limited residential space.
