Life on Our Rescue Farm: Feeding Animals & Farm Projects
Life on The 10 Acre Woods is never boring—and this week brought plenty of farm work, animal feeding, family time, and one difficult goodbye.
After a great family reunion with around 40–45 family members, we're back to normal farm life and getting ready for winter. We have 300 bales of hay to deal with, grain to move, a woodshed to take apart and relocate, and plenty of animals waiting for their breakfast!
Tara prepares a huge selection of fruits and vegetables for the animals, including apples, bananas, broccoli, lettuce, kiwi, oranges and yams. Of course, not every animal agrees on what's on the menu! Some prefer vegetables, while others would much rather have hay, grain or their favorite treats.
We also check in on the rabbits, sheep, goats, pigs and other animals around the rescue. Bailey has decided she wants to make her own escape route, the baby pigeon from our previous videos is growing up and learning to fly, and everyone has their own personality and food preferences.
But unfortunately, we also have some sad news.
Ollie the Rabbit has passed away. 💔
Ollie had been dealing with health problems that appeared to have been present from birth. Despite those issues, he enjoyed his time here, made an unlikely friend in our West Highland Terrier, and spent his final days eating, running and enjoying life. He passed peacefully.
Rescue farming isn't always easy. When you take in animals that have been neglected, sick or come from uncertain backgrounds, sometimes there are difficult losses along with the happy moments.
