AI GeneratedThe Detroit Red Wings are navigating a chaotic offseason marked by a search for a new General Manager and a trade request from captain Dylan Larkin. The organization is shifting toward a younger, analytically driven management style to modernize its hockey operations, though the lack of a permanent GM has stalled critical decision-making regarding player trades.
This has Red Wings fans very confused as while it's becoming more obvious as to what they're doing
with the general manager position heading into next season we get multiple new updates and
reports revolving around what's been happening behind the scenes and with the Dylan Larkin
trade request. Will he be staying at Red Wing to start the year or is the organization looking to
trade the captain? We're going to break down all of these new reports from some Red Wings insiders
on this episode of Red Wings Digest but before we jump into all of that guys a quick reminder to

it's your favorite team and it's one of the crazier off seasons and heading into a season with a bunch
of question marks you don't want to miss anything that's happening now first thing we'll get to is
from Jeff Merrick today now we have an idea that the Red Wings now based on reports that I covered
the other day and reports that I've been swirling the last couple days that they want to go younger
they want to go younger and more analytically driven for the general manager position now that
gets two thumbs up for me that should get two thumbs up from most fans now I know a lot of
people are not going to agree with that but for the general manager I'm not talking about president
position if they're hiring two people for the general manager position it should be a younger
name and it should be a guy who's more analytically driven now Jeff Merrick saying that the only name
that he's been able to sort uh sort of suss out there is Scott White and eventually he's gonna
find his spot and that is from the Dallas Stars and went over it in a previous video great track
record there I think that would make a lot of sense for a general manager position for most teams in
this from Ryan yesterday the more this process goes on and we have an update on the process
itself from Elliot Friedman as well the more I like the direction the Red Wings are trying to
go in hockey ops having massive resources to run the department is key allows them to bring in
multiple sharp minds rather than a one rules all system which by the way most of the competitive
teams in the league now the ones that are winning and going deep in the playoffs run this way so you
should probably start running your organization that way as well complete departure from the past
so I would have to agree with Ryan I think a lot of fans are in agreement as well it is time to
change things it is time to go with the now and run like an actual hockey club now uh from the
Detroit Times this morning there is belief that the Red Wings management search has hit a point
where it could get ramped up now I was talking about in my last video you gotta get going here
right and we'll get to the Dylan Larkin stuff in a second too because I think that plays
into this a little bit like it's it's pretty interesting some of the Dylan Larkin stuff the
new stuff here now it's hit a point where it's ramped up they gotta get this done soon you can't
go into the season without a general manager and we're less than two months away from the start
of the regular season which starts earlier this year so they gotta get this done I was ranting
about it the other day don't wait don't sit on your hands also don't hire the first name possible
don't hire what we've heard in like a Peter Shirelli don't hire a Brad Shreliving do not
hire a Mark Bergevin don't hire any of those guys of the old guard right go a newer name go with
Scott White if he wants the job I think that would be a good candidate I think another good candidate
would have been Evan Gold but now he's with the New York Islanders so it sounds like things are
really ramping up here and and again that's from Elliot Freedman and it should because you gotta
get it done but at the same time you know they hired the search firm do your due diligence all
that stuff but you need a guy in place for the start of the season and the reason you need a
guy in place is because like I covered the other day Sean Horkhoff has essentially taken over as
the general manager through this whole process now he is serving as the general manager acting
GM I guess basically right we talked about this everybody's known this for about a week at this
point but he can't make any trades right now Dylan Larkin has asked for a trade what's going on with
that so you have a guy who's acting as general manager who can't make trades and now you're
starting to ramp things up okay that could make some sense let's get it done before the start of
the season when are you going to get this done because the new guy is the guy who's going to be
able to make the trades so Dylan Larkin going to start the year as a red wing what is happening
here right a lot of question marks that I still have now from Helen I want to get to this as well
the gist of the problem with the Dylan Larkin trade request and this is brand new stuff this
um that's not it's just it's just not happening that's just not happening especially with him
having no trade protection but Larkin selected teams aren't willing to part with their own
players who fit that bill obviously because if any team is acquiring Dylan Larkin they do not
want to trade good pieces off their team they want to go out and they want to win so obviously
they're not going to want to make a trade like that hmm that does make sense now there are some
other reports from NHL rumor report as well outlining that and actually I showed preference
by saying this is from this is a tweet from NHL rumor report but it's also from Helen St. James
and Dylan Larkin's trade request with the Red Wings uh the Panthers the Wild uh and the Golden
Knights the Wings have had discussions with those three teams as well as the Stars General Manager
Jim Nill now you know when this first started coming out we knew that the Panthers were an
option we knew that you know he put he put in his trade list with those three teams right we knew
that and we knew that it was going to be very difficult to get that done now we heard that
it was expanded to the Dallas Stars as well we knew that that was going to be difficult to get
done especially now with them re-signing Jason Robertson so we knew that those teams were
involved I would imagine this was before do you understand what I'm trying to get at guys this
was before DVY was fired right or like oh whatever is now an advisor to Chris Illich right I would
imagine that was before because that's what we were hearing now those four teams are believed to
be the only four he would accept the trade to he has full trade protection so now Sean Horkoff is
in charge he can't make trades you're trying to speed up the process which you should have got
on the horse anyway to get this process done have the process do the process but you know get it
done right don't hire just the the one of the guys from that list that we heard right so go through
that process get it done but you need to get it done soon because you need to have a resolution
here one way or another hey are you staying or do you actually want to be traded and the
organization's got to get on that because who's making the trades then if it's Sean Horkoff he's
not allowed to make trades Chris Illich he shouldn't be making the trades has to be the new
general manager of the team and then the new general manager of the team is going to be tasked
with hey the first thing you have to do is try to find a trade with the Panthers who have no
cap space and just acquired Brady Kachuk the wild which I still think is probably the most likely
trade scenario at this point apparently he wants to go to Dallas and then the last option there
is the Golden Knights who are not going to give you anything in a trade right so you're still
in a tough position so that's the latest we've heard to me based on this new report nothing's
moved right and I'm not I can't say I'm shocked by that I don't know if anyone would be shocked
by that but based on this new report nothing's moved because nothing's changed since Steve
was let go from his position step down whatever you want to name it fired whatever it is step down
and now you're in the same spot because you have a guy who's acting as general manager who's making
minor league signings and filling the team up that way uh and you know getting business done that way
he's not allowed to make trades though and the biggest thing you need to sort out is if you're
trading your captain it's a bit of a messy situation still however it sounds like the
process is speeding up and let me tell you if Scott White's gonna you know if you would accept
the job and again this is from Jeff Merrick he's hearing that Scott White's name's out there I think
Evan Gold would have been a good candidate too if Scott White's name is out there if Scott White
would take the the job you go through the process you do your due diligence all that stuff you have
a search for him you hired them for a reason Scott White's probably the guy he's probably the guy
great track record in Dallas and he's looking to move on to he wants to be a general manager in
this league so to me it would be Scott White so guys let me know in the comments how you feel
about all of that it looks to me and the last thing I'll mention here as well there was a report
the other day and I had it in my last video too it's a little bit older at this point that Dylan
Larkin's trade request no matter who comes in the door allegedly still stands he wants to leave
right but you got to figure that out you have to figure that out hey is this definitive you want
to leave we got to trade you all right new guy in the door that's the first order of business
make that trade right so it's pretty interesting let me know how you feel in the comments below
and if you haven't yet hit that subscribe button so you can stay up to date with everything red
