"Pansy" for Piano and Cello - Bruce Franklin - WKMT Festival June 2026

Bruce Franklin, who studies composition with Gisela Paterno at WKMT, presented the premiere of his first original composition, Pansy, at our Annual Music Festival. Guided by Gisela from the earliest stages of the creative process, Bruce developed a work of remarkable sensitivity and expressive restraint. Written for cello and piano, and performed by Gisela Paterno and Joaquín Perdomo Moreu, Pansy explores a minimalist musical language while retaining a clear sense of classical development, thematic growth and structural direction. Its delicate textures, carefully paced repetitions and subtle changes of colour created an intimate and reflective atmosphere. This premiere marked an important milestone in Bruce’s journey as a composer and revealed a thoughtful musical voice with great potential.
