"Life is a Malady" by Bruce Franklin - WKMT June Festival 2026

Bruce Franklin, who studies composition with Gisela Paterno at WKMT, presented the premiere of his original composition "Life is a Malady" at our Annual Music Festival. Guided by Gisela from the earliest stages of the creative process, Bruce developed a deeply introspective work that explores an intimate and contemplative musical world.

Written for solo piano and performed by Joaquín Perdomo Moreu, *Life is a Malady* unfolds through a sensitive musical language in which subtle changes of harmony, texture and pacing invite the listener into a space of reflection. Rather than relying on overt dramatic gestures, the piece draws its expressive strength from restraint, allowing its musical ideas to develop gradually and naturally.

Its reflective character and carefully shaped progression create a sense of inward exploration, giving the music both emotional depth and structural coherence. The work reveals Bruce’s growing confidence as a composer and his ability to transform personal and philosophical ideas into a focused musical narrative.
