So this is the perplexing one to me. This is the perplexing team to me. The Pittsburgh Pirates,
with all of that hitting and all of that pitching, they lose four out of five games this week to
Arizona and Cincinnati. Now they came back Saturday and they won. Schemes did not look
good Friday night. Their playoff odds, Tom, this is the biggest drop of the week in terms of
playoff odds, and the Nationals dropped two, but Pittsburgh dropped significantly this week to
under 30%. I thought, Tom, they were in the best position to capture one of those final
wildcard spots, but if Schemes isn't Schemes, I don't even know if I feel the same way about
the team, and they lost Ryan O'Hearn, if I'm not mistaken, for four to six weeks.
Are the Pirates going to try and make that up here? Because I got news for you, Tom. If they
don't, this is going to be a massive organizational change in the offseason if they fall short of the
playoffs. It really has to be, and when you're looking at a team that's, they are second in the
league in terms of run score, second in league in terms of run score, and say, okay, teams are
there plenty. They've horrible pitching. The Pirates actually have a positive run differential,
and they're not going to make the playoffs. That would be a huge problem, and I'm not saying that
the Pirates were some block to make the playoffs or the Pirates have been some super well-run
organization in past years, but they need to remedy this, and they're obviously running out
of time because of the deadline. If they make no moves, I think that's them folding. I don't think
they can sustain what they've been doing thus far. They can't continue that for another two months,
essentially, losing O'Hearn, schemes not being at a top level, and not making moves, I think,
is folding to the fan base. I think that's what it indicates. You're just not willing to take
the shot this year and at least try and make the postseason for once. I still do like Camilo
Duval, so I do like that trade, and maybe in Pittsburgh, he'll be better than he was in New
York. By the way, I won't indict Pittsburgh if they win 83 games and don't make the playoffs,
but if they finish under 500 or something like that, that would be a very disappointing season.
