Burroughs numbers his first
couple of starts as I said
that all that great need to turn
him around three home runs in
eight innings it's definitely to
clean up tonight the ball in the
ballpark Jeremy Peña shortstop
Burroughs with the payoff swing
and a foul tip struck him out.
He had not struck out in 30
plate appearances and Burroughs
gets him to start the ballgame.
One out nobody on for Isak
Paredes right handed hitting
third baseman.
It's worth their ninety six
back to back case for Burroughs
bring up Jose Altuve pop up
shallow center.
Look at O'Neal Cruz got there
easy didn't he sure did one two
three Bucs come to bat against
Ryan Gusto on the mound for
Game 2 Ryan Gusto.
You can see splitting time
between that bullpen and starts
overall his numbers this season
are three and two record at a
four point six two E.R. Ray.
He has totaled thirty nine
innings pitched forty two
strikeouts in that time that
number 19.
Those are the walks in the time
he's been out there a little bit
of an issue with control and
some of these starts.
Happy anniversary to Andrew
McCutchen.
Sixteen years ago today.
Can you believe it.
He made his major league debut
here.
And now McCutchen goes down on
strikes.
Ryan Gusto picking up his first
strikeout of the night getting
McCutchen for the second out.
So it was two outs and he got
ahead of Brian Reynolds before
walking Reynolds then a four
pitch walk to Horwitz and now a
first pitch that tails in and
clips to Brian Hayes to load the
bases wherever that confidence
was as a high schooler.
Gusto needs to regain that
confidence at the major league
level.
Little Tapper that Paredes want
to charge gloves and throws just
in time to get Frazier for the
final out the pirate stray in
the base loaded Gusto working
around a couple of walks in a
hit batter Christian Walker
stands in.
Work three days for Burroughs
Burroughs already matched his
career high strikeouts for
batters into this game.
Victor Carrutini is going to
have himself a double here with
two outs Astros have their first
base runner.
Here's Myers rolled weakly to
short kinder Philippa collects
it and gets it out of the first
for the final out.
So that two hour double left
stranded and the pirates come to
bat at the bottom of the second
still scoreless.
Tommy Pham will lead it off.
Short chance for an infield to
hit out.
They're going to challenge that
one.
Heck of a play by Jeremy Pena by
the way and they will challenge
me.
I didn't see anything clear and
convincing yet.
I mean there's a there's a
couple of views of it.
You know is it enough to turn it
over.
The one thing that they may or
may not have that angle but they
can sync up multiple views.
They're all time coded so you
can see exactly if there's any
shot of when the ball contacts
the interior of Walker's glove.
After a view of the call in the
field's overturned the runner
is safe.
It's a lead off hit for Pham of
the lead off man on for Andy
Rodriguez hit hard and that's a
fair ball for Andy Rodriguez
into the right field corner.
It goes and it sticks around
there.
Rebella will hold Pham on the
double by Andy Rodriguez second
and third and nobody out
counterfeiter to hit yesterday
and that will get the run home.
You would think Pena thought
about it instead wisely goes to
first and it's one nothing
pirates and a kind of Falefa
ground ball that scores Pham
infield hit for Cruz and Bucks
on the pond for Andrew McCutchen
coming up.
Yeah that was a hit as soon as
it left O'Neill Cruz's bat
McCutchen drives one to left and
this will score a run.
The sacrifice flies Melton will
make the catch and McCutchen
will pick up another Rivi and
it's two to nothing.
Two outs for Brian Reynolds
swing and a miss Gusto strikes
out Reynolds to end the inning
or two runs in the inning on
three hits.
Cam Smith starts things for the
Astros here in the third inning
line to left on the run.
Pham makes a nice catch diving
toward the line Tommy Pham
taking control of that big left
field.
The defense really is picked up
a lot of late to be honest
Pham's playing a really fine
defense all year out there.
Jacob Melton the batter and
there's a strikeout for Burroughs
or a strikeout for Mike Burroughs.
That's impressive.
Two men gone and back to the top
for Jeremy Pena.
There's a base hit.
How about Jeremy Pena.
Ten game hitting streak his
second double digit hitting
streak of the season back at it.
Three one is swinging a ball
roll cued really do second base
and Frazier gets it on the first
for the final out and had a lot
of anguish.
Frazier took care of it cleanly
one hit one left we'll go to the
bottom of the third it's still
to nothing.
Pirates Hayes singles advancing
Horwitz to third and Bucks on
the pond with Frazier coming up
double play ball.
They got what they wanted.
Pirates get one it's three to
nothing as Diaz on his first with
two men gone for Victor
Caratini strike three called
it packed a lot of punch a
couple of hits one left and the
pirates leading three nothing
coming to bat at the bottom of
the fourth.
Here's O'Neal Cruz one for two
to the left center field gap.
That's just impressive right
there.
The center fielder Meyers the
left fielder Melton were kind of
pinching to try and close that
left center gap and he hit it so
hard.
It's an easy double.
He puts on a show.
Look at that.
Look at the left fielder in the
center fielder trying to close
that gap.
Hundred and thirteen point eight
miles an hour.
He's taken off for third with
two outs no one's covering the
bag so he'll just pick up
another steal there.
You let that just Nicky in the
arm or something.
You're going home.
McCutchen had a sack fly his
last time up.
That's a swing called on
McCutchen.
That'll be a strikeout for
Gusto who picks up his third
strikeout of the game shutout
inning for Ryan and the Astros
down three nothing to have
nobody on for Jacob Melton struck
out his first time three to
swing and foul tip struck him
down ninety five at the top of
the zone Burroughs with another
strikeout his fan six tonight
just have the top of the order
trying to solve Mike Burroughs
who will face the lineup for the
third time this time he sends a
three pitch down the line and
left and that falls off the wall
right to Tommy Pham.
Payne is going to have to hustle
and he'll get into second with a
leadoff double Payne a second
into the night.
He fell down at the plate on
that swing.
It looked like he was on skates
went down to his back knee
Astros trying to get something
going here had a pitch up in
the end.
Jeremy turns on that back leg
just collapses.
He's a parade is standing in
line drive to pitch not to fail.
He's going to take about right
now and let him leave feeling
pretty good about his
performance here tonight.
And then let the bullpen go to
work and be removed after 70
pitches.
But it's his longest outing in
more than three years in
professional ball.
Mike Burroughs goes five and a
third so far scoreless didn't
walk anybody tonight.
Jay Sugar and his numbers pitch
very well and I think Greg this
is kind of been his spot to try
to get the inning over with to
get out of a little bit of a
jam and a ball for it.
Kind of backed up and stayed in
two on with one out and
Christian Walker who homered
yesterday represents the tying
run here in the sixth swing and
a foul tip struck about up and
in with a fastball finish him
off.
Ninety five upstairs two outs
and now Yiner Diaz bounce to
Hayes thought about running to
first to third goes to first and
gets the out and a good job
again by Sugar.
New pitcher for the pirates is
Braxton Ashcraft is right
fielder Cam Smith swung through
and missed the slider.
And that's how number two in the
seventh struck him out looking
in a curve ball scoreless
seventh for Ashcraft.
Here we go.
Ninth inning and coming in a
lock it down.
Here comes David Bednar two and
two on Christian Walker Bednar
delivers swing and a miss.
He struck him out through it
right by him at ninety eight one
out literally right by him right
down the middle.
That's just need one more runner
on to bring the tying run to the
plate.
Swung through and missed he
struck him out on the splitter
two out in the ninth.
Jake Meyers one for three kept
his four game hitting streak
going with a single as last time
a swing fly ball deep center
Cruz back on it still back on
he makes a catch over his
shoulder on the run and that
ends the ball game.
David Bednar with the save Mike
Burroughs earned a shutout win
goes three to nothing.
