A Minimalist Tasmanian Forest Home Like No Other

Hidden within the dense forests overlooking the D'Entrecasteaux Channel in Tasmania, Australia, Killora Bay is a seasonal holiday home designed to quietly belong to its natural surroundings.
Surrounded by Tasmanian white gum trees and native vegetation, the house is carefully positioned within a limited footprint to protect the existing forest and local wildlife. Dark fire-resistant timber cladding, reflective glass, and fragmented volumes allow the architecture to blend into the woodland while framing views of the landscape.
Inside, separate wings provide privacy for multiple families, while a generous central hall connects the home and extends the living experience between indoors and outdoors. Skylights, deep window seats, a wood-burning fireplace, and carefully framed views create intimate spaces shaped by changing light and the surrounding forest.
More than a holiday retreat, Killora Bay is an example of architecture that works with nature rather than against it—creating a quiet home where the trees, sky, light, and landscape become part of everyday life.
