They Made This House Bigger Without Enlarging It

This house needed more space. But instead of attaching a new wing to the original building, the architects scattered the new rooms between the trees.

Located in Comporta, Portugal, the MJA House was expanded with four separate pavilions connected by outdoor wooden walkways. Three contain private bedroom suites, while the largest holds the living and dining areas. At the center, the pool brings the old house and the new spaces together.

The pavilions were carefully placed between existing pine and cork oak trees. A mirrored entrance nearly disappears into the landscape, deep wooden roofs create shade, and every walk from the bedrooms to the living room takes you outside.

Here, the garden is not something you simply look at through a window. It replaces the hallways and becomes part of the house itself.
