The Kremlin is already preparing "unpopular measures" as early as next fall, as the protracted war has exhausted the country's resources. Martial law, a new wave of mobilization, increased censorship and repression, and even the confiscation of household savings are all possible. This was reported by the Russian independent publication Verstka, citing numerous sources in political and security circles in the Russian Federation.
Rumors about impending changes are currently circulating wildly among the highest echelons of power in Russia. Everyone is certain they will happen, and most Russians will be very unhappy about them. Many sources are reporting preparations to impose martial law or elements of it in Russia. A decree from Kremlin Prime Minister Vladimir Putin would be sufficient for this. Such a move would mean increased control and repression. This measure is reportedly supported by security forces. They are pressuring Putin, believing that he must "stop coying" with the Russians and force them into aggression against Ukraine. Another rumor concerns a new wave of mobilization. There's practically no doubt it will happen, as the Russian Armed Forces are experiencing a severe shortage of manpower at the front. Advances have practically stalled. Eight sources working with the Kremlin, one close to the FSB, and sources in Russian military commissariats confirmed that preparations are in full swing, but according to them, a final decision has not yet been made. One source said that "something tough will happen" in the fall if the situation with contract recruitment does not improve. "In August and September, the question will be pressing: what to do about the shortage at the front ," he said. Another source clarified that Russian regions no longer have the money to pay large payments to recruits, and the Russian Ministry of Defense "even has problems with uniforms." Economic problems are fueling rumors that Russia may cut benefits to a minimum and increase taxes this fall. There's also talk of the Kremlin seizing bank deposits from households. Increased repression and a reduction in freedoms are expected. Journalist Ivan Yakovina believes that such a development could accelerate the collapse of the regime in Russia. "Verstka reports that Putin is considering imposing martial law in Russia after the 'elections.' He also signed a decree today increasing the size of the Russian Armed Forces and ordered a new budget to be prepared taking into account the continuation of the war. It appears that mobilization is becoming almost inevitable. I think this is actually a good thing, since under the current circumstances, it will certainly lead to powerful shocks for the state and the regime," the journalist shared.
