A new deal is in place this morning to provide permanent housing for U.S. National Guard troops that are deployed in Washington, D.C.
The National Guard Bureau says it has closed a deal with a company called Placemaker for some $300 million.
That will allow Guard members to move into apartments.
And up until now, they have been staying in hotel rooms across Washington, D.C. for nearly a year now.
President Trump has had those troops on D.C. streets after a declaration of emergency last year.
They're expected to stay in place till 2029.
All right, 8.03 this Sunday morning.
People getting going, starting up their Sundays, heading to church, what have you.
And weather will be cooperative for anything you want to do today.
Yeah, for the most part, we're going to be pretty good.
I mean, it's going to be warmer than it was yesterday, Tom.
And you know who's sneaking in the back door, right?
Humidity.
That unwanted house guest is trying to make a comeback.
And that is what's going to happen, especially into the week.
Now, today, you'll feel it just a little bit more than yesterday.
And it is going to be a warmer day as well.
But also, eyes to the skies later could get a rumble of thunder or two popping up.
Ridge of high pressure, large and in charge for us.
So we will have some sunshine as we get into the day.
If you're heading out the door this hour, though, a mixture of sun and clouds, 72 degrees.
The winds are very light.
Coming in from the south at about five miles an hour.
And not dealing with a lot of humidity right now.
That's going to happen by this afternoon.
So visibility finally improved for Culpeper.
They were down to zero just a while ago.
So I'm happy to say that with some patchy fog.
67 at Martinsburg this hour.
70 at Dulles.
Manassas, 72 at Quantico.
67 at Westminster.
Leonardtown at 69.
And 73 degrees for Annapolis.
Here's a look at your planner for the day.
We'll get plenty of sunshine you'll get to enjoy before we see the clouds rolling in.
And chance of a rumble of thunder this evening and into tonight.
So keep that in mind.
And as we take a look at your highs for today, we're looking about the mid to the low to mid 80s, I want to say.
86 in the city.
The same at Manassas.
84 at Dulles.
85 at Fredericksburg.
A warm 87 for Culpeper, though.
And 85 at Frederick.
So once again, a chance of maybe an isolated storm or two.
Not everybody will see it.
So not a total washout by any means.
But definitely keep your eyes to the skies as we get ready to head into the later part of the day.
Tom?
All right, thank you very much.

Officials say the residents first smelled smoke.
Then they went outside.

Turning to the war in Iran this Sunday morning.
The U.S. military has paused airstrikes after nearly two weeks of untestified attacks.
Now, this comes as those diplomatic efforts continue to prevent the conflict from escalating and widening throughout the region.
President Trump says talks are moving forward, but he also warned more strikes could remain possible.
Stop executions in Iran now!
Well, that was the scene here in Washington as protesters called for an immediate end to what they say is political oppression in Iran.
Now, the group gathered outside the Lincoln Memorial yesterday.
Iranian-American communities have gathered here to say no to executions in Iran, no to torture and free all political prisoners.
And the only way that we got to get our message across to the world is that the real enemy of the Iranian regime is the people of Iran that are willing to sacrifice their life for freedom and democracy.
And that is what we have to get behind.
Those demonstrations continued into the evening.
In Virginia, registration offices are open for early voting.
The vote is off to a slow start this week in the Commonwealth after just one week left for residents to get their ballots in ahead of that big August 4th primary.
Now, the primary is later this year.
It's usually held in June.
This year, it's in August.
Voters are deciding candidates for the United States Senate as well as the House of Representatives and some local offices as well.
Early voting is going to end in Virginia on Saturday, August 1st.
House lawmakers have left Washington as they've gotten an early start on their summer recess.
But with those all-important big midterm elections now just three months away, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are heading back to their home districts to try to rally support.
This morning, Fox News Chief Congressional Correspondent Chad Pergrim with more on Capitol Hill.
The House is gone, but the campaign is on.
We're going to have a lot to talk about during this break.
The contrast on the ballot this November between communism and freedom.
School is out for the summer in the House, but Republicans are trying to educate voters how Democratic candidates are leaning to the left.
The reality is, is that the Communist caucus, the commie caucus, is coming to Congress.
To cling to their narrow majority, Republicans hope to distinguish themselves from Democrats.
They have to answer for why they voted against funding our troops, against funding the government, against common sense policies like voter ID and proof of citizenship.
The House approved a plan barring stock trades by members, but tacked on a voter ID mandate.
Democrats contend that converted a once bipartisan issue into a GOP political wedge.
I proudly voted no because we are not going to sabotage mail-in voting in this country, and we're not going to fall for kind of their bait-and-switch tactic here.
Democrats are campaigning on affordability.
Prices are up over 25 cents a gallon, over $4 a gallon in my region.
The conflict in Iran presents Democrats with a political opening.
Will Democrats recalibrate their message on Iran? Will we see ads on Iran going into midterms?
We don't have to recalibrate our message.
We've been opposed to Donald Trump's reckless and costly war of choice in the Middle East from the very beginning.
In the 2006 midterms, Democrats flipped control of Congress by campaigning on ending the war in Iraq.
It worked, but when asked how Democrats would end fighting in Iran, Jeffries replied, quote, we've got to figure that out.
On Capitol Hill, Chad Pergram, Fox News.

which prompted renewed tear gas clashes and the removal of the movement's 22 million followers on social media.
Now, D.C. is now joining other cities around the world like London and Berlin in this global wave of support for those efforts.
Today's events, we're told, will feature advocates, student voices, and local musicians as well.
