It's a live look right now.
Coming in for you on the National Mall.
Beautiful, beautiful sky out there for this Sunday, October 25th.
Now, if you squint your eyes really closely,
you might be able to see some
of those 51st Annual Marine Corps Marathon Runners

And they're going to have great weather as they make
their way around the nation's capital in Virginia this morning.
Gwen Talbert joining us with a look at the forecast,
which I got to say, you've had some
pretty good ones in our time, my friend.
This has been a great stretch.
No complaints here.
This has been an amazing stretch.
We're just kind of like, okay, you know,
when is the bottom going to fall out?
No, no, no.
Keep it going.
Think positive.
Think positive.
Keep this going.
Well, we're going to keep it going at least
into the beginning of next weekend.
Then we've got a few possibility questions about maybe some changes.
Okay.
But the changes this week I think are going to be welcome
because it's temperature rising.
How about that?
It's going to get even milder than it has been.
The weekend is ending very, very pleasant.
We've got the sunshine out there for you.
44 degrees, still a little bit of a cool start to your morning hours,
but it's not going to be bad for the afternoon.
Winds from the north, northeast at about 3 miles an hour.
Ridge of high pressure continues to dominate the weather pattern.
You know what I always say.
it's large and in charge, giving us all those bright skies.
33 degrees, though. Chilly start
for Martinsburg, even colder for Cumberland at 31 this morning.
32 at Winchester, 34 at Frederick.
We've got 50, though, at Annapolis. That is the spot.
42 at Leonardtown and 40 at Fredericksburg.
So we do have some cold weather alerts to talk about.
These are in effect until 9 o'clock this
morning and that's a frost advisory as well
as a freeze warning now we've had to deal with these
over the last few mornings or so so no surprise here at all
and as we take a look at highs today
we're going in the opposite direction of all
of that because look at this 67 degrees flirting
with 70 as we get into highs for today 67
at Quantico 66 at Manassas perfect day for that race
weather cooperating for sure by noon it'll
be about 63 degrees with the sunshine for those
runners. Gwen, thank you very much.

today if you're interested in heading out you're encouraged
to use public transit bypass dc or
arlington entirely this morning all right elsewhere down
to the national mall there is a brand new
memorial to tell you about on the national mall
the national desert shield and desert storm memorial
was dedicated Saturday near the Lincoln Memorial.
Now, visitors and veterans can walk through
the site for the very first time this morning
to honor those who served and liberated Kuwait back in 1991.
This marks what is the final stage of what's been a 16-year effort
led by Desert Storm veteran Scott Stump,
who said that the goal all along, in his view,
was to make sure that an era in history was not forgotten.
I felt that in 2010, that this period of time,
all that was accomplished was soon
going to be relegated to a footnote in history.
It was being totally forgotten. I'd attended a
number of veteran events, in fact,
where they would recognize people who had served. They had
recognized people who had died,
and they would go right past it like it never happened. I felt that
that was wrong and that something had to happen.
And as Phil said, I'm just an average everyday
American, but I felt that I had to at least
do something to try to set the record straight
so the future generations would know what this story was.
Stump says that the memorial is designed
to draw viewers in to what appears to be a desert oasis,
helping them understand the sacrifice
behind the conflict it was entirely funded through VFW donations
and the nation of Kuwait
the memorial now stands as a permanent place for veterans
and their families to reconnect and to
remember all right time now 8:06
