Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe video discusses the potential signing of DeMar DeRozan by the Miami Heat following LeBron James' move to the Philadelphia 76ers. The speaker argues that while there is mutual interest, DeRozan is a poor fit for the team's current needs, specifically regarding playmaking and three-point shooting.
There's absolutely no way. With LeBron James signing to the Philadelphia 76ers, it is time
for this Miami Heat organization to pivot and finish off their offseason on a hot note. Now,
DeMar DeRozan is the biggest name linked to this Heat organization at this point in the offseason,
and I'm here to tell you there's absolutely no way this should be or will be the final signing,
the final big signing for this Heat organization to close out this offseason.
We'll break down DeMar DeRozan, what he would bring this Heat organization, the price tag in
order to actually acquire him, and why this is absolutely a horrible decision for this Heat
organization. We'll break down all of that on this episode of Heat Digest. Please do remember,
scroll down and smash that subscribe button. It means the world to us. We can't succeed without
you guys. So again, thank you. But now let's get to it and break down the news surrounding DeMar
DeRozan and what signs are pointing to the idea of him actually being acquired by Miami and why I
think this is absolutely a horrible decision. So, DeMar DeRozan. Barry Jackson, the Miami Heat,
or the Miami Beat writer, I should say, went on to post this article earlier this morning following
the LeBron James signing with the Philadelphia 76ers, and he goes on to say this. We're quoting
Pat Riley from the Dan Levitard show from just over a week ago that we broke down on this channel.
Go check it out if you have not already. Quote, everybody's talking about shooting. That's not
the main priority right now. It's another playmaker. Now, that's great. Another point
guard, someone who can handle and facilitate the basketball and initiate the offense. I'm not
opposed to that idea. I think De'Veon Mitchell is going to exceed expectations. I think Ryan
Conwell is going to be a great rookie in the league, especially for this Heat team as currently
constructed. Now, DeMar DeRozan doesn't fit either of these two categories. One, in the sense of a
shooter, and two, in the sense of a primary ball handler and a playmaker to say exactly. Now,
why is that? Well, it's not who the Heat should be looking for. Now, before we get to the rest
of the news, we do have to thank our sponsor for this video in PrizePix. PrizePix is America's

time being. But again, we'll get to that in just a minute and use the code down in the description
if you're not already signed up for PrizePix. So let's get to another quote to Barry Jackson
before I get into my own ideas and why I don't like this idea. But Barry Jackson would go on
to say the Heat and free agent DeMar DeRozan have had mutual interest in the past and fresh
conversations are expected to are expected in the wake of James picking the 76ers. Now this
shouldn't surprise a lot of us as we've broken down the DeMar DeRozan conversation a few times
up to this point in the offseason and a lot of it was contingent on the idea of where LeBron
was going to sign. If LeBron landed in Miami it felt like there was a 0.0% chance of DeMar also
landing in Miami for obvious reasons. LeBron picking up that forward position who also
can take over that ball handling and facilitating and playmaking ability for the seed organization
regardless of the position he plays as we've witnessed throughout his long and illustrious
career. DeMar DeRozan is a scorer, primarily a mid-range scorer. He's never been a prolific
three-point shooter. He's never been someone who is known to handle and facilitate the basketball
and really be someone who initiates offense outside of being the focal point offensively
in a scoring aspect. Jackson would go on to say he's had years in San Antonio where he's passed
it more. A veteran Eastern Conference scout said he's a mid-range guy and on any given night he
can get you points. He doesn't do much else. If he accepted the role off the bench and then
finishes the game he could be fine and I don't disagree with this. If he was someone that was
coming off the bench as an offensive threat yes it could work. Yes he could fit in with the seed
organization but it doesn't check the boxes the Heat are looking to really check off with their
next acquisition, their next big and one of their final acquisitions of this offseason due to the
cap restraints they currently face. Then Barry Jackson would conclude this conversation with
saying this, if DeRozan signs the Heat likely still would need another skilled three-point
shooter though Miami has four players who ranked in the top 38 in three-point percentage last
Again the idea is the same. DeRozan is not that prolific three-point shooter all of Miami is
expecting to see and acquire this offseason and granted has he had a really good career without
a shadow of a doubt as we've all witnessed it on a first-hand basis as he played the the vast
majority of his career with the Toronto Raptors and then jumped around from San Antonio to Chicago
and then with the Sacramento Kings. If you look at the three-point percentage for the entirety of
his career he's only a 30% shooter from behind the three-point line that is far from prolific
and if you look at his best year what was it 35% with his first year in Chicago outside of that 32,
33, 33 like there's not a lot of great illustrious three-point shooting seasons for DeMar DeRozan
which really does scare me not only does he not check that box but if you look at the assist
numbers his best was that 6.2 assists per game when he averaged that in his final year in San
Antonio back in 2018-2019 yes can he play a lot of games for you absolutely he's not someone that's
really been injured a lot through his career but the overall production the shooting numbers are
way way down and not something the C-team is really looking for he is a prolific mid-range
scorer think of something of a Shawn Livingston I know that's a crazy poll but it's really the
type of game that he plays someone that lives and dies by the mid-range shot that is an elite
post game and that can work with his back to the basket at a rate higher than almost anybody but
the three-point percentages are not something that really jump off the page at you and because of
that I don't think this is something or someone that he'd really go for. If you look at the numbers
from last year 30.5% from the top of the key 29.5% from that right corner and 38.5% from the left
corner if he could shoot 38.5% from the entirety of the three-point line this is a
drastically different conversation but for the entirety of his career this is not something or
a brand of basketball that he has really lived by and not to mention the playmaking ability is not
necessarily there yes there's a few years where you have just five to six assists per game and
that's great but that's never been his game it doesn't seem like if he's acquired this offseason
which is now going to be his 35 36 37 year old season who's to say he's going to be able to adapt
and change his brand of basketball that just that drastically to really fit in and check those boxes
to the level the Heat are really looking for. I think there's other great options like Kendrick
Nunn even who we just discussed in one of the last episodes of the Heat Digest go check that out if
you haven't seen it and various others that could be legitimate other options. Buddy Heald I know
he's not a playmaker or really a someone that is going to facilitate the basketball at any level
but the idea that he's a prolific three-point shooter and a marksman at that who doesn't need
the ball in his hands at all time and is willing to move without the basketball I would much rather
Buddy Heald than someone like DeMar DeRozan I truly do believe that let me know down below
your thoughts and opinions on the idea of signing DeMar DeRozan this offseason do you think it'd be
a good fit or are you with me and you're against the idea I truly would rather see the Heat go in
a different direction than going out and adding something or someone of a bit of a journeyman
through the last few stages of his career then there I just feel like there's so many better
options I know there's not a lot of options left but there is better options than DeMar DeRozan
at this point in the year I know the offensive numbers are good and the overall numbers in a
collective are good in the sense of true shooting percentages field goal percentages but then you
look at that three-point percentage he's in the bottom 30th percentile shooting only 32.8% this
final in this past season again I think there's a lot of better options than rather than DeMar
DeRozan Buddy Heald being one of them I know he's contingent on a buyout from the Atlanta Hawks
but so is Klay Thompson who again I think would be a better option than DeMar DeRozan both of them
contingent on buyouts which is a huge problem for the Miami Heat maybe they try to make a trade for
late draft compensation a second round pick for years down the line to go out and acquire one of
these players until a buyout or if a buyout is even possible but again I don't think DeMar DeRozan
is the best option for the Miami Heat I think it'd be a bit of a reach in my honest opinion
now to conclude this video let's get up to those prize pick squares I mentioned earlier
as prize picks is the best way to get in on the action we're going another baseball game but in
the last episode I broke down the Marlins picks that I threw out there as they are hosting the
San Diego Padres and we're going to go with two lines and that we're going with more than first
one being the Trey is savage more than one and a half walks allowed he is playing and pitching
against the Boston Red Sox today who are scorching red hot might be the best team in the league you
might be more than one and a half walks he has dealt with command issues his last few starts
the last one was the only one where they were kind of controlled he didn't walk anybody but
in the games before that he had a game with six walks the Red Sox are looking a bit more improved
at the plate as a team and they look like they're willing to take their walks which is a huge point
and they're playing good baseball and that taking their walks is a huge part of it we're going to
pair that with Wilson Contreras more than eight and a half hitter fantasy score that is a red
these are promotions on price picks great promotions at that as they are alternate lines
higher or lower than the default lines that you can find and some of them give you higher payouts
the other the green goblins give you less of a payout pairing these two gives you a hundred
dollar wager makes you two hundred and sixty dollars hundred and sixty dollar return on that
hundred dollar pager or a hundred dollar wager excuse me and again to conclude this video let
me know down below your thoughts and opinions on the possible signing of Demar DeRozan in Miami
what are your thoughts and opinions on it do you like it do you hate it or are you in indecisive
and really in between with it let me know down below your thoughts and opinions and i'll see
you guys on the next episode of Heat Dive
