A Waukesha man says his infant son fell off the bed and hit his head, but police
say the baby's extensive injuries tell a different story. Waukesha County
reporter Brett Lemoine shares the huge cash bond now set in this case this
week. A Waukesha County Court Commissioner set cash bond at $1
million Monday. Prosecutors charged 21 year old Tejan Rhodes with counts of
physical abuse of a child and first degree reckless injury. Police say they
got to Rhodes apartment on White Rock Avenue and he was kneeling over his one
month old son. Police say the baby was turning grayish white because he wasn't
breathing properly. They also note the baby had existing bruising around his
left eye and quote extreme swelling on his face. Police asked Rhodes what
happened. He told them he was holding the infant in bed scrolling on Tiktok
when the baby twitched and rolled out of his arms and onto the floor. The baby
was in such bad shape he had to be transported to Children's Wisconsin by
a special unit for advanced care. Doctors told police the baby suffered a
skull fracture, a brain bleed, bleeding along the spine and bleeding in both
kidneys. Investigators say these types of injuries are caused by direct force
trauma like a punch or kick. No one answered the door when we stopped by
Rhodes apartment. He is due back in court next week for a follow up
hearing reporting in Waukesha. Brent Lemoine Fox six news and we asked
Waukesha police if they knew the baby's current condition. They could only tell
us that that baby is alive.
