Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe hosts discuss viral news stories and dating trends before interviewing Sean Rifle, a former police officer and *Love Island* contestant, and veteran meteorologist Chris Sowers. The episode covers reality TV experiences, career transitions driven by family needs, and the evolution of digital weather forecasting, ending with a humorous snack taste test.
Oh, this one's gonna be good.
I'll tell you that.
Welcome to the show.
One of the stars of this season of Love Island,
Sean Rifle is here.
Plus, after years down in Florida,
meteorologist Chris Sowers has decided
to come back to Philly.
It'll be good to see him.
Hi, Vince.
Hi, Mike.
Did you watch some soccer?
I enjoyed the Saturday game, the England-France game.
Where they actually scored.
Where they did stuff.
Yesterday was kind of a snooze fest.
But if you're into one of those teams, it's tense.
Oh, dribbling.
Dribble before you shoot.
Here's the top three.
Vince, I'm sure you saw this as a man in the news.
The guy in Kansas City who got stuck
in a porta potty for eight hours.
Yeah, there but for the grace of God.
Oh, Mike, I can't even imagine.
We've all been in porta potties
at music festivals or whatever.
It stinks to high heaven.
He apparently, and there's footage of this,
the Kansas City Fire Department came out
and cut him out of a porta potty.
He not only was in it, he went all the way in it
and was in there for eight hours.
You know why he said he went in there in the first place?
Why?
He dropped his Mountain Dew bottle.
It fell into the toilet.
And he what, wanted to flush properly?
There was something so valuable about this bottle
that he went in, fell in, and was there all those hours.
Dew, the Dew, D-O-O.
Mountain Dew Dew.
Dew Dew.
Methinks this gentleman may have-
I know what you're gonna say.
Another thing happening, you know what I mean?
Couple years, like many years ago,
one of the first who was ever in this market working here
was a guy who had like a fetish
and he wanted to position himself
in the, underneath of the porta potty
to have people go on him.
What?
And they arrested him with the goggles on and everything.
That was not why I did that.
No.
The Danny Thomas thing.
Did you ever hear those stories?
Danny Thomas was into that?
Well, I don't wanna-
Is that why he started at the St. Jude's?
Listen.
Even it all out?
His daughter, I love, I don't wanna get into it.
But anyway, there had to be something in that bottle
that was more valuable than just Mountain Dew.
But then what do you think it was?
It was a fetish?
I think he was what they call trippin'.
Oh, trippin'.
Maybe he, yeah, or a fetish.
I don't know.
I thought maybe there was something in it
like drugs or something valuable inside the bottle.
Even if there was drugs in your Mountain Dew bottle,
you just let go and let God at that point, you know?
Yeah.
You gotta let it go.
Let it go.
And they put chemicals in there.
Oh, of course.
I'm surprised he was alive.
All right, let's get to this next one here.
A woman online asked people if they could compare
their, let's say, ex-boyfriend, girlfriend
to a store, a physical store.
So here's some creative ideas.
This one where a person said,
I'm gonna name my ex after Netflix
because I share him with four other girls
and I'm the only one paying.
That's pretty good.
It didn't have to be a store.
It could be a service, too.
I would name my ex Uber because everyone got a ride.
Oh.
Whoa.
Yikes.
And then a woman said,
I would compare my ex to Microsoft
because he was micro and soft.
And that's why you end on good terms.
That's right.
Yeah.
Now you, let's see.
What store would you be?
Maybe Dick's?
What part of me says sporting goods?
I dated a Waffle House once.
Did you?
Yeah, open 24 hours a day.
Oh my gosh.
Did she waffled?
What about The Gap?
Side Gap or BJ's?
All right, let's move on.
Let's talk about your birth month is November.
Yeah.
Mine is July.
So this dating expert says,
there are red flags that you should watch out for
according to the month in which you were born, okay?
So Vince.
Yeah.
Here are your red flags.
You should not ignore.
I want to see if the match up to the report that was found.
According to this story,
people born in November,
you should avoid anybody who is dishonest,
never lies to you at all.
I have a real problem with that.
So I see how that, I don't like being lied to.
And what about indifference?
Indifference, I'm indifferent about.
How about that?
Well, okay.
You need somebody with honesty and somebody who's very-
No, I do like passion.
People who have indifference or some-
Yeah.
And that's a trait supposedly for people
who were born in November,
that you're very passionate.
You and Karen Hepp.
Yeah.
Two November birthdays.
Yeah.
Okay, let's go to me.
I am July.
It says, I cannot date someone who is insensitive or cold.
People born in July, cancers, are emotional
and apparently need someone to handle
my emotional sensitivities.
And you have to be very gentle with me.
And also, I love people who are very affectionate.
You know, that is true though.
Well, my work wife, Samantha, is a July birthday
and she's those things.
What?
Cold.
She is.
And what was the other thing?
But she should avoid people who are cold.
They say that she's sensitive too.
You know?
And she's insensitive.
Where is she, by the way?
She's out of the country, isn't she?
No, I think she's, I think, no.
No, didn't she?
No, I think that was, I mean, I-
It looked like that.
Anyway, let's talk about some other coworkers.
We'll ask her tomorrow.
Let's talk about coworkers that posted over the weekend.
We'll be right back with Sean.
Tonight on Mike.
He was one of the stars from this season of Love Island.
He's got ties to our area.
Sean Rifle is here.
Plus.
This is my bread and butter.
So severe weather comes, just go to Sourskywatch.com
because I'll be streaming live with coverage
the whole time.
Chris Sours is back in Philly.
Chris joins us to talk weather and more.
That's tonight on Mike.
We're live.
But before we do that, this is your chance
to find out who you're most compatible with.
Everybody gets to make out!
Woo!
She gets two boys.
I like to be in control.
I love this game.
Oh, he's going in.
We're so back.
For the love of God, Sean.
Sean Rifle is here from Love Island.
You should have seen the way he said hello to us.
I know.
Oh man.
I'm still, my lips are chapped.
Yeah.
Do you mind if I pull a chat with you?
Absolutely.
That's the lingo, right?
That is, that was good.
That was good.
I liked that a lot.
We actually love this show.
I'd say 90% Vince of our coworkers watch Love Island.
Oh my God.
Yeah, they love it.
It's crazy.
They love Love Island.
Including the biggest fan girl
is one of our producers, Megan, right there.
She slid in your DMs, I think.
Did she?
I married.
Oh, she's married.
You're not supposed to tell people
when I slide in to DMs.
But that is a good question, Vince.
You should ask how happy she is on the show,
you know what I mean?
She might be looking to.
No, no, no.
She pulled us aside and said,
I'm too old for Sean.
I'm way too old for Sean.
Yeah.
You're too old for Sean?
Never say too old.
They took your phone away from you, right?
Yes, no phone.
While you're taping.
And so when you got bounced,
which I thought was really rude.
Thank you.
You got your phone back.
How many DMs did you get?
So to go on the show right beforehand,
we turned our, I turned my messages off,
so I couldn't receive any unless you followed me.
And I had about, I think a thousand something.
I never really tracked it.
And then I think I had about 700 DMs to go through
from just my friends and people that knew me.
And then when I ended up opening the messages
for the request, I couldn't even count.
I couldn't tell you.
And now you've got tons of followers.
Yeah, tons of followers.
How has the show changed your life?
Or has it?
I think it would be more so a lot of people now
come up to me to talk to me and stop me,
which never happened before.
But everyone in the Lehigh Valley area is so friendly.
So it's just a,
some days you have maybe 50 to a hundred
elevator conversations where it's just like,
hey, how are you?
Like, it's nice to meet you.
But I'm a big people person.
So I love talking to people and I don't mind it one bit.
Where are you living?
I live in Easton, right in downtown.
So did one of the messages on your phone,
was that from the police department?
Cause you were a cop.
Yeah.
So my buddies in the police department
did send me out messages being like,
hey man, awesome job on the show.
Like super bummed to see you didn't make it very far at all
as the first one voted off.
But-
And by the way, you're no longer with us.
Yeah.
So they filmed a new segment called on the after sun
where they give you your phone back
and they actually record you going through it.
So I got to a point where there was a voice message
from one of my friends and I was like,
oh yeah, this was one of my home girls.
Play the message and it starts playing.
And as she's talking to, I'm so proud of you.
Don't worry about what anyone's saying online,
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
You're way better, you're an awesome guy.
Don't listen to anything you're hearing.
And I was like, oh, what is she talking about?
And so I Googled my name.
So I was like, well, let's just see what happened.
And then at the very top,
I seen the TMZ article of the mayor.
And I was just like, oh.
And so then I started reading through it.
I saw my mom and my sister were involved.
I was just like, oh man, what a mess I made.
So did you, I mean,
you could go to another jurisdiction as a cop,
but do you want to do that anymore?
That's a loaded question.
I think I absolutely loved the career I did.
However, even prior to taking the opportunity
to go on the show, once I had my son,
the job became different.
So it's like, oh, it's super fun.
You get to run and gun.
You do all these fun things with your friends.
And then now I have a baby to get home to
and my pride and joy.
And then also when it comes with shift work,
yeah, oh man.
I just-
What's his name?
His name's Ravello.
Oh, wow.
Ravello, yeah.
He's the sweetest little boy ever.
He's, oh man.
But so it came to that point where I sat down,
started having conversations,
even with my buddies at work,
that was basically saying,
I don't know if I'm willing to take the same risks
that I was beforehand.
Of course.
And that's not fair to you guys,
nor is it fair to the public.
So what do you want to do?
I would love to get into the medical field.
And it's mainly because,
so in Bethlehem's schedule,
I work five days on, two off,
five days on, three days off.
So not only is it a day I'm working switch
every single week,
I'm day shift one week, mid shift the next week.
So now the sleep schedule,
and I'm doing like obviously custody,
spending time with my son.
Got to a point where I was like,
I'm ready to, you know, coach T-ball eventually,
you know, and be there for all this.
I don't care if he has show and tell at preschool.
I want to be there.
Megan, can you imagine being in a hospital bed
and he comes in.
Can I take a sponge bath night or whatever?
Sponge bath night is crazy.
I have a slime called episode.
Oh God.
But yeah, so I've recently,
I want to,
if I can go back to school full time
and go into nursing.
If not, I want to take,
I was just talking to someone,
I believe it's called a PCA or a CNA to get in
without doing the bulk load of the school.
And then from there,
take my classes.
Well, good luck with that.
Thank you.
So can you be,
have you been in touch with anybody
else that was on Love Island?
Yeah.
So everyone that I've been,
me and Gabe and Beatrice were out first.
So we all talk, text, chat and everything like that.
And then, yeah, she's very sweet.
And then now that everyone's coming out,
they're so popular that I shot them all a message
that was basically saying,
hey, great job on the show.
Loved watching it.
I know you're going to be super busy.
No need to feel like you need to respond back to me,
handle what you need to handle.
But if you're having any stress
or trouble adjusting back to coming back into the world,
just call me, text me, whatever.
I'll be there for you.
Walk you through that.
How's the talent in Easton?
The what?
The talent.
The talent in Easton.
Oh, brother.
No, Easton, Easton has very, very beautiful women.
Does it?
Good one.
I personally though, have,
I just, I focus on like my son and them.
Right, right.
Things like that.
All right, well,
but you're interested in dating, right?
Oh, of course.
I'm very interested in dating.
Just not someone from Easton.
No, I'm very open to it.
It's actually an interesting thing
where I'm the most regular guy on the planet.
And I'm still the most,
like I went on a dating show,
the most popular dating show,
and didn't get a date.
And I got sent home without getting a date.
Oh, stop.
You know what I mean?
Listen, if there's one thing I understand,
it's being handsome.
Yes.
Well, sure.
And, you know, having some free time.
Yeah.
What about that Anaya?
Did you ever get to know her?
Yes, Anaya is,
and she's incredible in every way you could imagine.
I'm so happy for her and Carl,
because here's the thing though,
I'm a book guy.
Like I just got done finishing fourth wing
and I'm the fourth wing series.
And now I'm reading the last letter with Rebecca Yaros.
And so when I see Carl
and the way he expresses his masculinity
is just chef's kiss.
So I absolutely love them.
When I messaged Anaya,
I mentioned Carl in it.
And I was like,
I'm so happy for you.
Well, last question.
Love Island is shot in...
In Fiji.
So you're there,
the cameras come out.
How much time was it between starting rolling
and you making out with somebody?
Oh man, okay.
First day?
Yeah, it was within hour.
I think it was within the hour.
Cause I was the last person to go into the villa with Casey.
So everyone already did their introduction.
So it was very much me going in,
introducing myself,
Casey introduced himself.
And then Ariana was like,
hey, let's get to know each other
on a deeper level or something.
And next thing I knew,
I was staring at these big doors,
open the door.
Oh, she had big doors?
Yep, big doors.
The doors they set up.
We're having offers.
Yeah, the doors they set up.
And then you open it and you get straight to...
You get right to...
Get to knowing everybody.
Wow, through your lips.
Yeah.
Oh my God.
Good luck to you.
Thank you so much.
Keep us updated on what's going on in your life.
Of course, it was a pleasure.
Thank you.
When can we all hang out?
Anytime.
Oh, good.
You follow me, I follow you back,
and we'll be somewhere.
All right.
Somewhere doing something.
We could hit some place after the show.
Yeah.
Send me a text.
Midnight, let's go.
Send me a text.
Come on back.
That's for sure.
Okay, welcome back, everybody.
We're just simply going to punch up his camera
and you will recognize him in two seconds.
That's Chris Sowers.
Chris, good to see you, man.
How are you, man?
Great to see you.
Oh my God.
You're on channel six, how many years?
Almost 19.
Dang.
Almost 19 years.
And then you went away.
I went away, tropical paradise, West Palm Beach,
and we were there for almost two,
and then we just moved back, so.
Why'd you come back?
Well, I mean, it was just one of those situations
where I have a little girl, she's four and a half,
and my family didn't get down there as much as they wanted,
we didn't get back home as much as we wanted,
and so she's growing up and she's not seeing them,
and then that made things really, really difficult.
It's blazing hot down there.
Yeah.
You like snow, don't you?
Yes, I like the snow.
He likes snow.
Snow in the cold, so I decided to move to West Palm Beach,
take my talents there, right?
Is that what LeBron said?
LeBron, yeah.
But really, it was the family thing,
more than anything, I think.
Well, after 19, 20 years, this is home, isn't it?
This is my home, and that was the other thing, too.
I mean, I've got a pretty nice following
on social media, and the viewers stayed with me,
and I stayed with them while I was down there,
and so that brought me into the whole Sour Sky watch thing,
but that was the biggest thing.
I've been here for so long, and it was the opportunity,
that was why I went down there.
Chief meteorologist, big severe weather market,
Hurricane Alley, you know what I mean?
And as a forecaster, that's something that you,
I wanted to, 26 years in television already,
at some point, I'm gonna retire,
and I just wanted to go back, look back,
and say, okay, I did this.
I was the chief, I was in a big, big, big weather market,
in terms of severe weather and everything, and I did it.
I think Hurricane Schwartz spent time in South Florida.
That's what I heard.
I heard he was in South Florida, too.
Yeah, the whole hurricane thing.
Hurricane, I guess that's where that came, yeah.
But yeah, and so we moved back, and now we're back here.
How did you ever end up on the air?
Because you were a meteorologist.
It's a funny story, right?
I was, I started in television back in 2000.
I was Dave Roberts' producer,
because you were saying about the magnets, right?
Everybody loves the magnets, everybody loves them.
Gotta bring them back, and I've said that.
Cecily and I have talked about that.
And so I was brought in to kind of get Channel 6
away from the magnets and into them more,
because remember, technology had just taken off,
and everyone was moving towards the computers,
the radar, and the graphics, and everything.
So that's why they brought me in,
to go through that transition.
And so I was a behind-the-scenes producer
for Cecily and Dave for five years,
and one day, Dave just says to me,
hey, what would you think about
stepping in front of the camera?
And I was like, mm, no, no, no.
But then the more he would bring it up,
I was like, hmm, maybe it is interesting.
All right, let me try it.
And then one day, Gary Papa, Jim Garner, and Dave,
they get done in the six o'clock show,
they keep the cameras rolling,
and he goes, get up there right now and start talking.
And so that's how it all started.
Just got up there and started ad-libbing?
Yeah.
And that launched a career.
Yeah, it launched, I mean, I owe everything to him.
I mean, that's how it all started.
Hey, Dave, good to see you.
Well, you're a handsome man.
Oh, you know what?
You're pretty good looking yourself there, Mike.
I love you so much.
You have beautiful blue eyes.
Are they blue or green?
They're blue.
Yeah.
No, they're blue.
Is enough time gone by that maybe we could get magnets?
Maybe we should get magnets.
I love the idea.
What I had suggested once,
and maybe once a month,
but obviously when you have a quiet weather situation,
go back to it,
because there's so many viewers that still like that.
And I just think it's, I mean, look-
Right in the cloud?
Yeah, right on the cloud,
because when the weather's quiet all week,
it's just kind of, but if you bring something back-
Like this week's gonna be nice and calm.
It's personality.
You mentioned Cecily.
Yeah.
You know, these folks have been around forever, like me.
I'm gonna eventually retire.
I mean, soon probably.
Well, we hope not, but-
Would you ever consider going back on television?
Sure.
Yeah, I mean, I'm enjoying what I'm doing right now.
I mean, I love television.
I've been on TV again, 26 years.
I made a career out of it, like you said.
And I enjoy, you know,
my old news director told me once
that I have the gift of gab.
I can talk forever.
And so, I mean, I love the camera.
I absolutely would, but I'm enjoying, you know,
I'm enjoying what I'm doing on the digital side.
Well, social media is probably gonna be
out-of-distance television.
So I think you're in the right spot.
Yes.
Sourskywatch.com
It's a 24-7 digital weather platform.
Way to go.
Good to see you, man.
You too.
All right, we'll come right back.
But first, Hoagiefest is back,
thanks to our sponsor, Wawa.
And this year, it's a meal deal.
Grab any shorty hoagie and hers chips
and a fountain drink for just six bucks.
Make it a classic for eight.
Gotta have a Wawa.
Mike and Vince will try our midnight snack
when we come right back.
Midnight snack in 15 seconds.
Wait, wait, that text.
I get the first bite.
Oh, okay.
The feeling you remember, wrapped up in a hoagie.
Same Hoagiefest love, now a full meal.
Gotta have a Wawa.
Gotta, gotta.
Gotta, I enjoy that Hoagiefest.
So do I.
This snack makes no sense.
It's Sour Punch ice cream truck.
Bites.
Bites, but it's not ice cream.
Huh.
Let's see what it is.
I'm just happy it's not a bag of lettuce.
I thought for sure they'd be giving us that.
What's the latest on that?
Was it lettuce?
No.
Or is it lettuce?
They haven't been able to trace it back
to where they thought it was traced back to.
All right, let me get it on this bad boy.
It looks like a string bean.
Oh, he's got a friend.
Packing material.
Oh, oh, all right.
Oh my, that's incredibly sour.
Chris Sours.
Hey, come on.
It's just too sour for me.
One, rating one through 12.
I'm giving it a four.
I'll go three.
I couldn't do another one.
Hey, thank y'all.
I'll be okay.
Well, we might see you on Good Day Philadelphia
in just a few hours.
Woo!
