Tehran threatens Washington with a new round of escalation if the American side attacks Iranian energy. According to Reuters , citing sources, Yemen's Houthi rebels, allied with the Islamic Republic, have completed preparations for possible attacks on tankers in the Red Sea and are awaiting orders from Tehran. Such actions could be a response to potential US strikes on Iran's energy infrastructure. According to the agency, representatives of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps are already in Yemen and are coordinating preparations for a possible blockade of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. A source close to the Houthis said the group had already deployed missiles and attack drones in the highlands near the strait and was awaiting further orders. The Bab el-Mandeb Strait connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and is one of the most important global trade routes. Approximately 7% of global energy supplies pass through the Red Sea. Blocking this route, along with restricting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, could seriously hamper oil exports from the Persian Gulf countries. In particular, following the reduction in supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, Saudi Arabia rerouted a significant portion of its oil exports via pipeline to the Red Sea coast. Should the conflict escalate, this alternative route could also be threatened. In light of recent events, President Donald Trump issued a statement on the progress of the current American campaign against Iran. As the White House chief said during his address on election security, the United States is "making great strides in Iran" and the public will be able to see the results of these efforts "very, very soon."
These comments came at a time of escalating military pressure: overnight, the United States significantly expanded the geography and intensity of its air operations. Strikes were carried out against transportation infrastructure, including bridges.
According to Washington's strategic plan, the destruction of critical nodes should exert the necessary pressure on the leadership in Tehran to force it to loosen its tight control over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
The President emphasized that the fruits of the current work will become visible in the near future.
The US leadership is considering expanding its military campaign against Iran, increasing both the intensity of strikes and the number of potential targets. However, the timing of any potential escalation remains unclear. At the same time, Iran warned that it was prepared to escalate its missile strikes in response to increased US attacks. Current assessments suggest that until the US launches more extensive strikes against Iran, Tehran will likely refrain from launching missile attacks on Israel.
As previously reported, US forces again struck targets near the Iranian island of Qeshm, located in the Persian Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz. According to the Iranian news agencies Fars and Tasnim, local authorities reported hitting several targets, claiming the attack was carried out by US forces.
In response, Tehran stated that it does not intend to tolerate US actions near its territorial waters and is ready to take retaliatory measures to defend its sovereignty.
