A big Kevin McGonigle fan club gathering at Hanrahan's Irish Pub in Drexel Hill to
root on one of their own in the MLB All-Star game at Citizens Bank Park.
The 21-year-old is a Bonner Prendy alum and rookie star for the Detroit Tigers.
How exciting is this? It's amazing you know it's a great day for all of us but
I can't even imagine what Kevin and his family are going through right now.
The kid worked his whole life for this. Yeah I think that's what makes Kevin so
unique. He remembers his roots, goes back to family and I know he hangs out with
all his high school friends. I just knew Kevin was very special from the
beginning. Jason Shepard coached Kevin as a kid. My son and a lot of the other
local kids around here played with Kevin growing up and this is a dream come
true for him and his family and all of us. Our Jen Fred caught up with Kevin's
mom Tracy on the MLB All-Star red carpet earlier today about making the team.
I started to cry and then when he told me he was going to stay at home I told
him I couldn't wait to have all three of my kids under one roof. He's amazing.
McGonigal who grew up in Alden talking Monday about being back in Delco and
playing at CBP for the All-Star game. It's hard to put in words being back home
like sleeping in my my childhood bed last night was unbelievable but just
being here with all these guys just taking in the full experience. Remember
this name Kevin McGonigal of Bonner Prendy. Back in November of 2022 I
covered the then 18 year old phenom at Bonner Prendy when he committed to
Auburn University. He wound up being drafted by the Tigers in 2023 and now
he's the youngest Major League All-Star. Extremely proud but even more happy.
Kevin got the baseball bug when he was a toddler. He was a huge Phillies fan now
returning to the bank as a player suiting up for the American League in
front of his family and friends including his auntie I who we caught up
with going into the game. He hit a wiffle ball over our house immediate
when he was three years old so we knew he was going to go places right then and
there.
