At the height of the summer tourist season, occupied Crimea has come under increasing pressure from Ukraine, whose drones are destroying the peninsula's transport, energy, and military infrastructure. According to Le Monde , power and water outages, fuel shortages, and a sharp deterioration in the overall economic situation have come as a shock to local residents and tourists.

The author of the publication notes that in just a few months, Crimea, traditionally positioned by Russian authorities as a major resort, has effectively become a war zone. Explosions, air raid sirens, long lines at gas stations, and power outages have become part of everyday life. Against this backdrop, video messages from residents complaining about the current situation are increasingly appearing on social media.

"You promised us security and a normal life. But in reality, we have empty gas stations, fear, checkpoints, long lines, and complete uncertainty," a Crimean resident said in one such appeal to the Russian leadership. As the article explains, the fuel crisis began to worsen after the Moscow-appointed occupation administration, in the wake of Ukrainian strikes, restricted gasoline sales to essential services. Residents attempted to transport fuel themselves across the Kerch Bridge from the Krasnodar Krai, but following Ukrainian attacks on oil refining infrastructure, the shortage also spread to southern Russia. As a result, gas stations began refusing to service vehicles with Crimean license plates.

At the same time, Russia attempted to establish fuel supplies by sea using the so-called "shadow fleet," but Ukrainian drones immediately began attacking these tankers.

Power outages following attacks on high-voltage lines and substations have become an equally serious problem. The occupier-controlled company Krymenergo has acknowledged widespread outages across the peninsula. Due to the regular power outages, businesses are reporting significant losses, as operating generators significantly increases costs. However, gasoline for generators is also in short supply.

According to the US-based Institute for the Study of War, the combination of fuel shortages, water and electricity shortages, and the constant threat of drone strikes "could have short-term demographic consequences that could linger in the long term if the strike campaign continues."

According to Le Monde, the tourism industry, which for decades was the main source of income for a significant portion of Crimean residents, is effectively dying these days. According to Russian tour operators and hoteliers, Russians are canceling their reservations en masse, abandoning trips to the occupied peninsula. Hotels are almost empty.

At the same time, the latest attacks on railway bridges providing communication between Kerch and military facilities are complicating Russian military logistics.

"The opening of a new front in Crimea by Ukrainian troops is a humiliation for Vladimir Putin, who once believed he had forever 'returned the peninsula to its native harbor,'" Le Monde notes.
