It is not for nothing that the Russians call the occupied Crimea an "unsinkable aircraft carrier." This key geopolitical and military hub in the Black Sea region allows them to control the water area, the airspace above it, and project military power onto coastal countries and the most important trade corridors. For Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and his entourage, Crimea also has a sacred meaning, because the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine began precisely with the seizure of the peninsula.
Now, due to strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on logistics and strategic facilities, temporarily occupied Crimea is gradually turning into an island without fuel and electricity, with a shortage of food and a tourist season that has ended before it even began.
Representative of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariev told Unian in an interview what is happening in occupied Crimea against the backdrop of the Ukrainian Defense Forces' strikes on Russian logistics and strategic facilities, and whether the locals are ready to endure inconvenience for the sake of liberating the peninsula. He says that as for the civilian population, the occupation authorities have declared a regional state of emergency on the peninsula, which provides for restrictions on the movement of people and transport, the introduction of a special operating regime for enterprises, the operational use of property, transport and resources, the allocation of funds from reserve funds without additional procedures, and the ability to explain any economic problems as "force majeure".
The Ukrainian Defense Forces have significantly increased the pressure, effectively blocking the main logistical routes. In particular, in the north of the peninsula, they hit the automobile bridge across the Perekop Isthmus, struck the "Dzhankoy" checkpoint and the railway bridge near Chongar, which provides a connection between Crimea and the Kherson region, damaged the bridge connecting Genichesk with the Arabatskaya Spit... In addition, it is very important that the so-called "Novorossiya" highway is under the control of the drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. And therefore we are observing how problems with logistics have also affected the supply of petroleum products, primarily gasoline.
Currently, there is a big problem with the supply of fuel, construction materials to Crimea, and the transportation of military equipment damaged at the front for repair. Similarly, when the Russians need to take food or repaired weapons from Crimea to their groups located in the Genichesk district of the Kherson region, or "transfer" personnel there for further participation in the so-called SVO. We have also received information about the suspension of the transfer of political prisoners and other citizens who are in pre-trial detention centers on the peninsula for a week. Usually, after the announcement of sentences, such people are taken to Russian colonies, where they serve their sentences.
Expert says that now many gas stations are closed altogether, and at those that are somehow functioning, fuel appears for a short period and disappears again... Therefore, the local authorities, so to speak, "let go" of the process - they allowed cars to refuel in the Krasnodar Territory and the Republic of Adygea. That is, people leave for the Russian Federation via the Crimean Bridge with an almost empty tank, and return with a full one - plus they are allowed to take another 200 liters of gasoline with them.
People have already come up with such a move: they place fuel trucks in front of the entrance to the Kerch Bridge, stop them in some courtyards of private houses... The car goes to the Krasnodar Territory, refuels, and, returning, pours fuel into the fuel truck, and then again stands in line towards Russia - for gasoline... Then this fuel is sold at inflated prices. They say that they are asking for $100 for a can of gasoline.
In parallel, the occupation authorities are implementing various administrative and criminal measures against those who earn money on the "black market."
