In the mountains of northern Okayama lies a small village with a population of only around 800 people.

Shinjo Village is known as one of “The Most Beautiful Villages in Japan.”

There are no large tourist attractions or famous hot spring resorts here.
What remains instead are quiet rural landscapes, traditional houses with red Sekishu roof tiles, flowing waterways, and a way of life that has continued for generations.

In spring, the famous “Gaisen Sakura Street” becomes a tunnel of cherry blossoms.
This time, however, we visited just after the cherry blossom season had ended — when the village returns to its quiet, everyday 모습.

We stayed at a traditional guesthouse called “Honjin Sato-tei,” enjoyed local food at a small village tavern, listened to stories about the “Small Village G7,” and explored the peaceful natural scenery surrounding the village.

A journey through a quiet side of Japan that still remains today.
