The leader of a mysterious Ukrainian unit called "Night Watch" is one of the creators of "Lima ," a powerful electronic warfare system that subtly changes the face of the battlefield. According to Forces News journalists , this is the Alchemist, whose face was hidden during the meeting, as his knowledge makes him a particularly valuable target for Russia.
As Ukrainian officials noted, Lima has already helped shoot down dozens of Russia's most advanced Kinzhal ballistic missiles, as well as more than 20,000 kamikaze drones.
"Lima is an electronic warfare system. It creates a zone where satellite navigation simply doesn't work. Any precision-guided weapon that relies on it loses its ability to find its target. Weapons worth millions—even tens of millions—are turned into scrap metal," Alchemist assured. The system was first developed by the Ukrainian startup Kaskad in 2022 and entered service two years later. It was initially designed to counter cruise missiles such as the Kh-101 and Iskander.
"It was distinguished by its range. And also our ability to directly attack the missile's navigation system. Once the missile passed through our system's coverage area, it couldn't recover—even after leaving it. It simply became unusable," the military officer explained.
Subsequently, a new threat emerged, namely the Shahed drones, which Russia actively used.
"These drones, cheaper than cruise missiles but more resilient, were equipped with multi-channel antennas, making them significantly more difficult to suppress," the article notes. However, Ukraine quickly adapted.
"We've developed a spatial jamming technology. Four electronic warfare units are deployed in a square formation. When a drone enters this zone, it automatically loses navigation," Alchemist emphasized.
The publication explained that the Lima system itself operates thanks to antenna clusters capable of detecting approaching threats from a distance of approximately 320 kilometers.
"Once detected, it has several ways to neutralize them: it can jam satellite signals, overload sensors, or provide false coordinates - a technique known as 'spoofing,'" the publication adds.
Moreover, Lima can interfere with the guidance system itself, causing the weapon to receive incorrect data from satellites.
At the same time, the technological race between Russia and Ukraine continues unabated.
"Russia continues to adapt. They went from four-channel antennas to eight, then to 12, and now even to 32," Alchemist said.
Ukraine's expertise in electronic warfare is currently attracting global attention. In March, Kyiv deployed interceptor drones to the Middle East. According to a military officer, the Lima system was also tested there by American forces, but not in combat conditions. "Our partners were extremely impressed. They believe this capability could significantly expand their operational capabilities," Alchemist assured. At the same time, Foreign Policy noted that Ukraine's complete collapse appears increasingly unlikely. According to journalists, Moscow's continued reliance on such harsh strategies is best viewed as a sign of weakness.
"Ukrainian armed forces, increasingly adopting robotic and automated technologies, have slowed Russia's advance to a bloody crawl, and in many cases even recaptured territory," the publication writes.
