Ukraine continues to strike Moscow , disrupt fuel supplies to Russia, and has intensified its campaign to isolate Crimea, putting Russian dictator Vladimir Putin under renewed pressure. As The New York Times reports , it is becoming increasingly difficult for the Russians to make progress on the battlefield.
It is noted that today, June 30, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported an attack on the Russian capital on Telegram. According to him, Russian air defense systems allegedly shot down more than 60 drones as they approached the city, and emergency services are working at the crash sites. Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov added that a six-month-old child died in the attack in the Moscow region.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that Russian air defense systems shot down a total of 419 drones approaching Moscow and Crimea. The publication noted that Russian occupiers began advancing on the front in early June, but are now encountering increasingly frequent problems. Moreover, Ukraine has begun launching more massive attacks on Russia, undermining Putin's ability to isolate Russian society from the war he unleashed.
Journalists recalled that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called this strike campaign "long-range sanctions" and described its purpose as putting pressure on Putin to end the war. However, Putin still publicly refuses negotiations. Despite this, the Russian leader acknowledged that the strikes on Russian infrastructure, which have led to fuel shortages, "are creating problems."
The publication added that on June 18, Ukraine launched a drone strike on the Moscow region. The attack targeted a major oil refinery, forcing the temporary closure of the city's four airports. The Russian Ministry of Defense later reported that nearly 1,000 drones were shot down across the country during the attack. Zelenskyy noted that this attack was a response to the attack on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. At the time, Russia claimed the Lavra was hit by an alleged "stray Ukrainian interceptor missile."
The publication emphasized that Ukraine's attacks have led to a significant fuel shortage in Russia. Now, huge queues can be seen at gas stations across the country. The publication added that the six-month-old child, who, according to the Russian side, died as a result of today's attack in the Moscow region, was at home. The Moscow region governor said the house caught fire after a drone crashed onto it.
"Civilians are suffering, children are dying – this is the result of the actions of the Kyiv regime," Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov cynically stated.
In his nightly address, Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian strikes are "bringing the reality of war back to Russia." He mentioned queues of cars at gas stations, as strikes on Russian oil refineries, pumping stations, and export ports are undermining the country's oil industry.
"We are achieving the results Ukraine needs so that the aggressor state cannot continue the war 'out there,'" the Ukrainian president said. The publication emphasized that the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine previously reported that, in the six-month period ending May 31, Russian forces killed 1,272 civilians and wounded another 6,871 people in government-controlled areas of Ukraine.
