Traditional Norwegian Clinker Boat Build | Handmade Wooden Rowboat Using Ancient Viking Techniques

In this video, we look at how a team in Norway builds a traditional clinker rowboat using the same methods that carried the Norse across the North Atlantic, no modern adhesives, no fiberglass, just copper rivets hammered cold and peened over by hand.

Stay tuned to see how they use clinker construction with overlapping strakes fastened by copper nails and roves, press each plank into place with traditional wooden clamps that won't bruise the timber, apply pine tar to every lap joint to keep it flexible and rot-resistant through every season, lift the completed hull off the building mold as a self-supporting shell, carve tholepins from hardwood to replace metal oarlocks, fit a protective stem band at the bow where the hull meets rock and dock, and bring thousand-year-old boatbuilding knowledge back to life through hands-on craft.
If you enjoy traditional woodworking, Viking boat building, clinker construction, handmade wooden boats, maritime heritage, and ancient craftsmanship, this is a complete build using techniques unchanged for a millennium.
