Le temple de Brahma est situe près du lac Pushkar, dans au cœur de l'État indien du Rajasthan.
D’après la légende, le seigneur Brahma se mit à la recherche d’un endroit pour accomplir un rituel sacré lorsque le lotus qu’il tint dans ses mains tomba et se transforma en un lac majestueux. C’est alors à cet endroit qu’il effectua le son rituel avant de baptiser la ville « Pushkar ». Littéralement, le nom se compose des termes push, signifiant « fleur » en Hindi, et kar, se traduisant par « main ».
Sa femme Saraswati ne put rejoindre Brahma lorsqu’il s’installa dans la cité. Le dieu épousa alors Gayatri. En apprenant leur mariage, Saraswati entra dans une grande colère et lança une malédiction sur Brahma : « à compter de sa date de mariage, Brahma ne serait plus adoré qu’à Pushkar ». C’est la raison pour laquelle le seul temple consacré à Brahma dans le pays entier, se trouve à Pushkar.
La ville de Pushkar disposerait de 500 temples. Le temple que l’on voit aujourd’hui aurait été construit au XIV e siècle, bien que la légende veut que sa création ait eu lieu il y a de cela 2 000 ans.
En outre, le temple de Brahma constitue aujourd’hui l’un des dix temples les plus visités au monde et l'un des cinq lieux sacrés de pèlerinage pour les Hindous en Inde.

The Brahma Temple is located near Pushkar Lake, in the heart of the Indian state of Rajasthan.
According to legend, Lord Brahma was looking for a place to perform a sacred ritual when the lotus he held in his hands fell and transformed into a majestic lake. It was then at this place that he made the ritual sound before naming the city “Pushkar”. Literally, the name consists of the terms push, meaning "flower" in Hindi, and kar, translating to "hand".
His wife Saraswati could not join Brahma when he settled in the city. The god then married Gayatri. Upon learning of their marriage, Saraswati became very angry and placed a curse on Brahma: “from the date of his marriage, Brahma would only be worshiped in Pushkar”. This is the reason why the only temple dedicated to Brahma in the entire country is located in Pushkar.
The city of Pushkar is said to have 500 temples. The temple we see today is said to have been built in the 14th century, although legend has it that its creation took place 2,000 years ago.
