Do Huskies Smell? Training? Shedding? Poo Disposal? Fan Friday #13

Can you guess what day it is? What's today Shelby? What's today Shiloh? It's Fan Friday! Well, don't yawn. It's supposed to be exciting! Silly girl! Time for the mail! This letter and this letter came from Okami123456 on YouTube. She sent us a cute little picture with Sunshine and Shelby playing and wrote, Sunshine and Shelby best friends! And then she sent us a letter explaining that she sent the dogs a little bit of blue dog food. I don't know if I'll give it to Shiloh. Her stomach's kind of sensitive to everything, but we might have to give it to Shelby. She'll probably eat it. Thank you! This letter was sent to us by Christine out in California and I had to show you the cute envelope that she sent it in. Christine sent us a letter and she also sent us this lovely picture or pictures of her Husky, Matches. She said that Matches doesn't do very well on walks. She seems like she's too scared to go on walks. I can tell from the picture, Matches looks pretty young. So the biggest tip I have for you is just, you know, reward her every time she goes with you guys and she does well. Reward or give her treats or a favorite toy. Something to reinforce the good behaviors that she's showing you guys. And I am really sorry if I say this name wrong, but this picture was uploaded to our Facebook fan page, which is facebook.com slash GoneToTheSnowDogs and it was from Mahi. I'm pretty sure that's how you say her name and it's of Shiloh and Shelby and we just think it's so cool. We appreciate it! On to the questions! Well, some more questions I guess. Swaggy Zero from YouTube wants to know if Huskies are really smelly? Um... Besides their stinky rear end sometimes... Shiloh! Huskies don't really have a dog smell like... Like... Some other dogs like Labs and stuff, you pet them and you have that... That dog smell that you get on your hand. Huskies don't really seem to have that and it has to do with their... You know, with their double coat and the oils that their coat produces. They don't really produce the same oils as other breeds of dogs. So no, they don't really smell. They don't have much of a dog smell at all. Unless you count stinky dog farts. Stephanie from Facebook wants to know, how do you train a bossy six year old Husky that barks back when you tell her, stop being bad? Stephanie, I really can't tell you. Shelby does the exact same thing. If Shelby gets into something, if she tears something up and I yell at her or you know, call her a bad dog, she pretty much does the exact same thing you described. She barks back, she talks, she woos and it's like having a child that's back talking you and you know, I don't know how to make her stop doing it. I just have come to terms with it and usually it just makes me laugh. Shiloh doesn't really talk back when she gets in trouble. You guys have seen some of the videos. She has a tendency to just fall down and look all cute. So we stop yelling at her. So if you figure out a way to make them stop or if anybody has any tips on how to make them stop, let us know but I just sometimes I just find it too cute to even want her to stop. This is another question from Facebook. This is from Jennifer on Facebook. Jennifer is dealing with her Husky shedding for the first time and she wants to know how to get rid of the fluffy floor tumbleweed. She has hardwood floors and she wants some tips on getting rid of the floor tumbleweeds. I can tell you I vacuumed yesterday. I have carpet in this house, in our new house. There's a fluffy, there's some... Oh look, there's more fluffies and more fluffies. Oh and there's some over there and you know what the best part is? I just brushed them yesterday. Oh and look, more fluffies. Oh look, fluffies! How do you make it stop? Sweep your floor every day, brush your dog every day and you might have a little bit less. This is the worst season for shedding right now. They're they usually blow their coats now and then once again in the fall just before winter. So this is when it's the worst to deal with but if you can make it through the little bit of blowing their coat... Fluffies! You should be fine the rest of the year. It's a lot easier to keep up with the rest of the year. Like I said, this is just the worst season right now. Jose from Facebook wants to know how we get rid of Shiloh and Shelby's stool. I actually had a couple of you ask me that so I'm actually going to show you. We use this. It's called a Doggie Dooley. It's basically a dog septic tank. We put all the nasty stuff in there, down in there. Add some enzyme digester and some water and it breaks it down and basically feeds the grass. Works really good. It doesn't smell. I'm really happy with it. That's what we use to get rid of it. It's a lot safer than throwing it away in the trash. I know a lot of places don't even let you do that. So that's how we get rid of all their poopy messes.
