So apparently Memphis wants us to tell this story in here while she's laying in Shiloh's old bed.
Yes, she is actually the only dog that uses this bed ever since Shiloh passed away. So I guess now it's Memphis's bed.
I'm gonna tell you the story about how we got Memphis.
Shiloh passed away on January 17th of this year. It was a Thursday.
That Saturday there was a race, a sled dog race in Indian River.
So Jamie and I went to the race and there was a team of dogs that we basically fell in love with.
We, you know, looked around. The people that owned the dogs weren't around at the time. They were out running the race.
Blah, blah, blah, blah. So we came home.
The next day I woke up and I told Jamie, I'm like, you have to take me back to see those dogs again.
I want to go see those dogs again.
So we got up, we drove all the way to Indian River to see those dogs again and we ended up talking to the owners.
Which was kind of funny because after I realized who they were,
I realized I was friends with her on Facebook from past sled dog races that we'd been to that we knew them.
We asked them if they were gonna be breeding dogs anytime soon.
You know, we still weren't really sure that was what we wanted to do and they said yes.
They were actually gonna be breeding two of their dogs about what I think she said like a week later.
So we asked if we could be put on their list for a puppy and they said yes.
Now Jamie and I decided that until those puppies were actually born,
we would continue to look for a dog to rescue.
There were quite a few that I had emailed on. There was a few that I had met.
Hey, you can't move around now that much.
There was quite a few that I'd emailed on and talked about. Some of them were just
wonderful dogs, but we couldn't take on another rescue that needed a lot of
medical, had a lot of medical issues because we really, we just couldn't afford it right away after Shiloh passed away.
So it was getting increasingly hard for us to find another rescue.
We had, I had a couple that, well, there was twice I called a shelter and said, you know, hey, we want this dog.
We're coming to get her tomorrow and
both times they said, oh, well, we don't hold dogs. I'm like, are you kidding me? We're a Husky home.
We know the breed. We want this dog and they went, no, too bad. So
we had a few
issues with looking for a rescue.
By April 4th,
we got the email that the puppies were born and I told Jamie, I, I don't want to stop looking for a rescue,
but I don't want to continue
looking as hard as I was. I was looking almost every night, you know,
and I could find some that were all the way in California and some that were all the way in Texas and the hard part
with that was, we didn't want to have this dog transported all the way to us and then have a bunch of issues
with that dog and our dogs. We wanted to find a dog close to us so we can make sure, whoa,
that it got along with our dogs. So anyway,
April 4th, Memphis was born and
we
decided this was what we were gonna do. We were gonna go the puppy route this time.
I know a lot of you keep asking me. Yes, Memphis is a girl. Yes, Memphis is from a breeder.
We did not rescue her. Memphis is from Highlander Siberians out of Dexter, Michigan.
Her, I guess it would be older brother from the previous litter. Her mom is Fizzy.
I mean, her mom is Gemma and her dad is Fizzy. Her older brother from the previous litter is
Rumor Has It, which is the dog, I don't know if you guys remember, he took best in breed for the Siberian Husky at Westminster.
This is
the red and white Husky. If you guys have been around for a while and you saw the sled dog races in Indian River that we
went to or you watch our vlog channel and you saw the dogs we were petting,
that red and white dog actually would be Memphis's older sister from a previous litter.
But anyway, you know, we know the people that bred the dogs. They're very good people. They're, you know,
I, you guys saw the responsible breeder video. We made sure that they're responsible breeders.
We know them. The dogs are all OFA and SURF certified.
You know, long history of very healthy dogs.
We decided this is what we were gonna do and
we ended up getting a puppy.
That does not mean that we're not gonna rescue another Husky.
Our house is pretty big. Our yard is pretty big. It doesn't mean we're gonna go get another dog right away.
But you know, if a Husky, if another rescue or a foster shows up that
fits in with our pack,
we're not necessarily gonna say no. So anybody that thinks, oh no, they got a puppy, now they won't ever rescue again.
Don't even think that because it could still happen.
So the main reason we didn't tell anybody, it wasn't just you guys that we didn't tell, we didn't tell anybody.
We didn't tell anybody to start because like I said,
we wanted to wait and at least until the puppies were born and then even after that we figured, you know, we've kind of
haven't really told anybody that we're looking for another dog
just yet, so maybe we should just keep it a secret.
And then, you know, in case anything happened, if something fell through and we didn't end up getting her, if she didn't fit in or
if there wasn't enough puppies born, if there wasn't one available for us,
we didn't want everybody to get their hopes up and then have there not be a puppy.
Yeah, so it's a lot harder to film a puppy than it is to film these two because these two are pretty good at just
sitting around in one room.
Where she wants to run from room to room to room to room to room to room to room.
A lot of you want to know why we named her Memphis.
Most of you probably know by now Shiloh is named after Shiloh, Tennessee. Shelby was named after Shelbyville.
Shelby was also named... Shelby's registered name is Shelby Mustang.
She was named after the car in the movie Gone in 60 Seconds. Trust me, this is all going to link together.
I was looking at a bunch of different names that had to do with the state of Tennessee and had to do with the Civil War
and Memphis was the name that kept like just jumping out at me. I'm like, I really like this name. It's cool.
It's unique.
I think, you know, as long as it fits her when we get her, I think that's what I want to name her.
And at first Jamie was like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
So anyway, we were out to dinner one night with our friends
and we were talking about the dog's names and we're talking about Shiloh's name.
We were talking about Shelby's name
and we were talking about how Shelby is named Shelby Mustang from the Shelby Mustang Eleanor
in the movie Gone in 60 Seconds and I turned and looked at Jamie and I said, I know he's a boy
but the guy that steals cars in the movie
his name is Memphis Rains.
And Jamie kind of looked at me and he went
good point. I'm like
we're gonna name her Memphis. As long as the name sticks, we're gonna name her Memphis.
I actually think we're gonna register her name as Memphis Bell. So her full name will be Highlanders Memphis Bell.
I think that's what it'll be.
So there's a little bit of background information on Memphis.
I'm sure you guys still have lots more questions about her and want to know a million other things.
There's a short condensed version of that story.
So there you have it.
That's the story of how and why we got Memphis.
Little baby Memphis. And yes, Memphis does have brown eyes and her eyes will stay brown.
Eye color and coat color on a dog was not important to me. I didn't care what color her eyes were.
I didn't care what color she was. I just wanted a happy healthy little puppy.
Are you giving? Oh, are you giving kisses? That's so nice of you. Memphis just gave you some kisses.
Thanks for watching you guys. Thanks for subscribing. Look, there's even little kiss marks on the camera.
Hey, you get out of there!
Go love a snow dog!
You
