Huskies in an Apartment? #FanFriday 146

I'm Chelsea and this is Kaya and it's Fan Friday! It's time for Fan Friday! Memphis did you throw my pillow on the floor? First question, because a couple of you had asked because I posted something on Facebook today. When is Memphis's first birthday? Memphis's first birthday is actually April the fourth. Yes, we will be doing a birthday video for her and probably taking her to get ice cream. You can come get ice cream too and I know some of you have asked if you can send her a card or a birthday present. Yes, you can mail things to our PO box for Memphis's birthday. Anything you guys send to her, any cards or presents or anything, we put in her birthday video. Hannah wants to know, has Memphis had a play date yet? My mom and dad have not brought the St. Bernard's over lately because it seems every time we have planned to bring them over our yard is full of ice and that's not good for any of the dogs to be playing on. So hopefully spring will get here soon. Actually technically it was yesterday and hopefully we will be able to have Sunshine and Greta over to the house to play. Memphis has met the St. Bernard's but she hasn't really had a good chance to play with them yet but hopefully soon. We got an awesome question from Bob who says that every Friday evening is a tradition of coming and watching our videos with his wife, his husky and his four cats. How do you have a husky with four cats? That's awesome. Shiloh probably would have got along with the cats but not these girls. These girls don't seem to get along with cats. Anyway Bob's question was, I'm curious as to how much time you put into planning and producing your videos. It feels like it would be a full-time job especially since you also maintain other sites and channels. Keep up the good work. Well thanks for noticing. The quick answer to that is probably time-wise probably three to four hours every single day on top of the fact that I work a you know 50 hour a week job. So on top of that it's probably three to four hours every day. There is a lot of time and planning and production that goes into these videos. From filming to editing to responding to emails to maintaining the Facebook page to keeping in contact with different companies who want to work with us. Shelby you are crazy. So yeah for anybody thinking that YouTube is easy and it's not work and it's all fun and games. Well it is fun and games but there also is a lot of work involved. This video alone Fan Friday probably takes me about half an hour or and then to edit it you know if I film for a half an hour or 20 minutes I have to watch through 20 minutes of footage. So it probably takes me a good 45 minutes to an hour just to edit it. Then I have to upload it. Then I have to re-watch it to make sure it worked. Then I have to put annotations on it. Then I have to go back to the previous videos and respond to comments. So a long time but I'm glad you noticed that that it actually is work because it is isn't it it's past your dinner time isn't it soon Shelby soon. Camden wants to know how do you keep your huskies from shedding so much? I have one and he sheds a ton. Want to tell us? Want to give us some husky advice? You have a hair right on your nose thanks. Is that all the advice? Come on Shelby give us some advice. How do you keep us from how do you how do you stop shedding? Oh you don't stop shedding? Ever? You shed every single day? You you put hair everywhere every day? Is that what you're telling me? Oh but it's not your fault? It's it's just your breed? You too? You shed every day too? Every day huh? Yeah? We don't stop them from shedding. They shed every day. I know you're sorry. It's just part of your breed right? One of the things you can do to cut down on shedding is to try to brush them every day or take them to the groomers. That will help. Use a ferminator. That helps. Vacuum all the time. That helps but other than that they shed every day. Shelby thank you for your advice. Appreciate it. Jessica says, I have a question for you. I have a husky puppy and I can't get her to stop biting people, my phone charger, pretty much anything. Any advice? Please write back. My biggest advice would be exercise exercise exercise. It sounds like you may have bored puppy syndrome. Sometimes when huskies get bored they get extremely and I mean extremely destructive. The best way to train a dog is to tire them out before you start any type of training. So go out and run that puppy around the block a couple times or take it for a nice long walk and then start working on training. That should help. I apologize if I say this name wrong. Meenan says, have any of your huskies ever eaten something poisonous like chocolate and how did you handle it? Well none of these girls have actually done that but our other dog Shiloh who's no longer with us actually did eat half a bag of Hershey's chocolate kisses one time. I actually think I have footage of her getting in trouble for doing it too. How did we handle it? Well when we found out that she did it I immediately called the vet's office. We came home from work and she had eaten half a bag of Hershey kisses. So I immediately called the vet's office and they asked me how much she weighed how long ago it had happened. We're running through all these questions as we were getting ready to race up to the vet and right as we were on the phone talking to them she pretty much puked them all out onto the ground and chocolate puke is really a pain in the butt to clean up. The vet pretty much told me that since thankfully she had puked it out we probably didn't have anything to worry about and just to monitor her overnight which we did and thankfully she was fine. If she wouldn't have puked we would have had to take her in to get her stomach pumped but thankfully she made chocolate puke. Do you remember the chocolate puke? You were around when that happened. I think you were. What happened Memphis? Did you push the ball behind the chair? XXGameToonXX from Instagram wants to know have you ever considered making a doggie treat cookbook that has all the treats that you make on your channel in the book? We have talked about doing that and thought about doing it. I think if we do something like that it'll be a community thing where everybody will be able to submit recipes to us because a lot of the recipes we do are ones that people have sent to us. There's only one or two that we've pretty much made up on our own so I wouldn't want to take credit for other people's work and you know put out a book and have it be all recipes that weren't necessarily ours but maybe if we did like a community cookbook maybe we could do that. You guys are all really making me want to go camping with all the camping questions. Nothing But This says, I love your camping videos. They're the best. I see that you use a line with your dogs. How does that work for you? Does it help? I have two dogs that I was considering getting the line but I noticed it's for three or four. What is a good way to tie up your dogs while camping? Most of you have noticed in our camping videos we use a picket line for camping which once we go camping again we'll do another video on that show you guys a little bit more about it. It helps us immensely. The nice thing about the picket line is it keeps the dogs in one area. It stops them from getting tangled around trees and everything else. Doesn't give them a whole lot of room to run but when we're camping we take them for walks and hikes and rides and all those things so the picket line works great for us. It keeps them safe, keeps them from getting tangled and keeps them close by. Stephanie31300 from Instagram says, have you ever considered making another Stuff People Say videos since you have new dogs? The same one you did a few years ago and since you have new fans. You know what? That's kind of a good idea. We haven't done a video like that in a while. I'm gonna write that down and maybe in the future we will do that. Heidi218 from Instagram says, we are active people trails hiking camping we are going to be moving into an apartment and our apartment said it's okay if we have a husky. What do you think about a husky living in an apartment? I know I've answered this question multiple times before. The biggest thing about having huskies in apartments is they're loud. Are you gonna be loud now? They're loud. So having them in an apartment you can get in trouble for having them be too loud. They're they're very vocal. The other thing is is it's not the space. Huskies can live in a small space as long as you're like you said a very active person. But the biggest issue is there's really no place for them to run around in a yard so you really have to be super active for them to burn off all their energy. And other than that it's just the noise that that may cause you yeah the noise that may cause you an issue. What do you think Shelby? Are you noisy? We're all gonna be noisy now? Yeah they're a little noisy. Gina Sylvia wants to know where Shiloh is buried. Shiloh's not actually buried anywhere. She's right there. Right there. She was cremated and that's her urn so she's right there with all of our other cool husky stuff. Anthony wants to know how many years do huskies live in comparison to malamutes? This is actually an interesting question. A husky's average life expectancy is 12 to 15 years. A malamute's life expectancy is 13 to 16 years. So technically malamutes can live a little bit longer than huskies but those are all just averages. You know you never know what could happen. Huskies like I said is averages 12 to 15 years and Shiloh only made it to 11. So just because that's the average life expectancy it doesn't mean that that's necessarily how long they'll live. Another example is Saint Bernard's life expectancy is seven to nine years and my parents have had two one live till 12. One live till 11 I believe. Two maybe live till 11. Anyway they had a couple of them that lived that definitely outlived the average life expectancy. So you just never know. Emily wants to know how do you keep your huskies so calm? Um we have three of them so they wear each other out when we're not wearing them out. I'm pretty sure that that's the only reason that they're actually calm is because they go outside. Really? They go outside and play with each other and run around and act all crazy and wear each other out. What was that bark for? She must be hungry too. We forgot the technical mail.
