Since Memphis turned double digits, we wanted to do an over the top Dog Birthday cake and decided to finally make a Rainbow Cake For Dogs! Are you looking for a special birthday cake for your dogs birthday? You have found the right place! In today's video we will show you how to make a mouth-watering Rainbow Birthday Cake that your dogs will absolutely love! This dog birthday cake recipe is a little more technical then some we have done in the past, but I think you can do it! Homemade birthday cakes are a great way to celebrate with your dog! Let's get into it!
🌈 Ingredients: 2 1/2 cups Flour (we used all purpose flour unbleached) 1 Tbsp Baking Powder 1 Tsp Baking Soda 5 Egg Whites 1/3rd Cup of coconut cooking oil 1 Cup of buttermilk 2/3rd cup Plain Greek Yogurt
Frosting: Whipped Cream Cheese
Preheat your oven to 325F In a bowl, mix together all of your dry ingredients. In another bowl, mix together your wet ingredients. Slowly incorporate all ingredients together. You want a cake batter consistency. If it's too dry, add a bit of water, if it's too wet, add more flour. Now get 6 bowls (you can do 5 if you like to work with the cake pan set, but we did 6). And divide your ingredients equally. I used a kitchen scale for this. We got just over 5 ounces of batter in each bowl, but you might end up with more, as long as it's all even, we should be good! Once divided, add 1 - 2 drops of food coloring to each bowl and mix. Pour your batter into your pans. If you do 6 layers, we baked 3 at a time. Bake the cakes for 10 - 14 minutes. As soon as your toothpick comes out clean, they are done! Let your cakes cook completely before frosting. I used whipped cream cheese for frosting, but you can use any dog safe frosting that you like. Frost in between each layer, and carefully stack your cake. Frost the outside and top if you like as well. I added some sprinkles to the top. That's it!
And for those of you wondering if people can eat this, YES, you can. It tastes like buttermilk pancakes, but less sweet since there is no sugar in this recipe. If you want to make a version of this for yourself, add 1 cup of sugar to the recipe, and 1/2 tablespoon of vanilla.

Is that good stuff? Holy cow!
You have it all over your face, Eleanor. It's all over your face.
Guess what?
We're doing today. Oh my goodness you guys, so it was
somebody's birthday
Memphis turned 10 years old. We decided she's having a birthday month instead of just a birthday day and today you guys we
are going to make a
rainbow birthday cake for Memphis's 10th birthday.
This is gonna be interesting.
There will be some links down in the video description below for everything you will need if you guys want to try to recreate this
as well.
Let's get to it. All right, so we've got our KitchenAid mixer over here. Kira's like, let me try some stuff.
No, I don't think no. You've never had buttermilk, but you might like it. She's like, hmm. No, that's yogurt.
We know you like that. Look at Memphis being so good back here.
All right, we're gonna mix these wet ingredients together.
So the first of the wet ingredients is one third of a cup of coconut cooking oil going right into the KitchenAid mixer.
Kira's like, let me help you out here.
You guys, she's like, dad, you don't know. No, you can't eat that.
Look at you. You're such an angel. I don't think you want to try coconut, do you?
Maybe. Just a little bit.
For the next ingredient, we are using five egg whites or if you buy egg whites,
it's five ounces of egg whites and these are farm-fresh eggs from our amazing friend Greg.
Memphis is like, maybe I would like to try the eggs. Maybe...
Mmm, raw eggs is so good for your coat.
They're like, yeah, we'll just try all the ingredients.
Kira's like, no, I would like it all.
She's like, all of it. All of it for me.
Next, we have two thirds of a cup of Greek yogurt.
Yes, you girls can try some of this as well.
Oh, we're ringing the bell. Memphis is like, um, excuse me, this is my birthday cake. I should get it first.
I should get to have priorities and Eleanor's like, yeah, while you're over there distracted,
I am gonna drink right out of the bowl.
Alright, you had some. Would you like to try?
Whoa!
Look at all their tongues.
Memphis! Memphis! You got some on your nose there, honey.
You got some on your nose, honey.
This is great. We love this.
Yeah, I know. You're going straight for that.
And last but not least, this is something we've never used in baking with the dogs.
But this is buttermilk.
So we are using one cup of buttermilk.
You're getting a buttermilk cake, Memphis.
What do you think of that?
Alright, she's like, whoa, I got so many good bites.
So many good bites.
Go ahead and pour in the one cup of buttermilk.
And then, you know, maybe Memphis would like to lick that bowl too.
She's like, look at me.
I should have named you soap and water.
Is that good stuff?
Holy cow!
You have it all over your face, Eleanor.
It's all over your face.
Kira, you wanna give it a try?
It's all over your face.
She's like, get out of there. Let me try some as well.
Yeah? Good stuff.
So now, we're gonna take the wet ingredients and we're gonna whisk them together just a little bit.
But no tongues allowed inside the mixer.
And we're just gonna mix them until they're incorporated.
What? You get to lick the beaters.
It's not even cake batter yet.
It's always the cutest view when you all have your little tongues going on the beaters.
So now, we're going to the dry ingredients.
We are going to mix one tablespoon of baking powder.
One teaspoon of baking soda.
This is gonna make your cake nice and floofy.
We're gonna put that right into the mixer.
So for this recipe, we are using all purpose flour.
Part of the reason behind this is we want our cake to be really bright colors.
We're looking for a really white cake base.
If you want to use wheat flour or a different type of flour, that is totally up to you.
Just know that your colors may not turn out as vibrant.
So it is two and a half cups of all purpose flour.
I don't think you want the flour.
Yeah, I know.
Go right in there.
Look, now it's empty.
Now, we're gonna mix that together until it's cake batter consistency.
What you think birthday girl?
You look pretty happy.
She's like, guys, this is so much fun. This is my favorite thing to do.
We're looking for this beautiful cake batter consistency.
We did have to add a little bit more buttermilk to get that.
If your cake ends up being a little bit too dry, you can add a little bit more buttermilk.
If it's a little bit too wet, go ahead and add some more flour.
Let me get this out for you.
They're like, let's just lick the beaters.
It's beater licking time.
Elinor's like, yeah, give it to me.
Kira's like, forget it, I'm getting the bowl.
Alright, so now we're gonna take this batter and we're going to separate it so we can make our six different colors.
Which means the dogs are gonna go out of here for a few minutes.
So our batter made about four cups and we need to split this into six different bowls.
So we're gonna start off by putting a heaping half a cup of batter into each of these bowls.
And then we're gonna measure it to make sure they're all equal.
So if you have a kitchen scale, we actually did about five ounces in each cup.
So now we have our six bowls divided and now we are going to add coloring.
You can use natural food coloring. You can use whatever you want.
We are just gonna go easy and use some oil-based food coloring.
And we're gonna do purple, blue, green, red, orange and yellow.
Woohoo! Look at these colors!
So quick change of plans.
We ended up using gel-based food coloring because the oil-based just did not make the colors we wanted.
But these are looking phenomenal.
And we have all the colors of the rainbow!
So now we are going to take this and we are going to pour it into these adorable little pans.
We are gonna bake three cakes at a time.
And while those are baking, we thought it would be a good time to remind you guys
that this is a treat, not a meal replacement.
Feed your dogs responsibly. Moderation is key.
Once in a while, they can have a birthday cake just like we can.
Alright girls, out of here so we can put them in the pans.
Alright, we're gonna go ahead and preheat our oven to 325F.
Putting it in the pans.
First three cakes getting ready to go in the oven at 325F.
We're gonna start off at about 10 minutes and check them as we go.
Look at how cool they are!
So we left them in for about 13 minutes.
They are out of the oven. They puffed up a little bit.
And now I'm gonna let them cool before we build the cake.
Look, we cut the top off.
So if you guys attempt to make this, I highly suggest trimming the tops so that your cake will stack correctly.
I just have this cool little tool that I use and I just cut the top right off.
And it makes it nice and even. See?
All the tops cut off.
And the cake looks nice and fluffy in the middle.
Now, we're gonna use whipped cream cheese and frost between every layer.
Oh my goodness!
We did it!
Cake is all frosted. Like I said, I used whipped cream cheese for the frosting.
A little bit of sprinkles because you gotta have sprinkles on a birthday cake.
We're gonna cut this open and see if it turned out the way we wanted it to.
Okay!
Moment of truth!
You're gonna have to do it.
You're gonna get a finger in your cake.
Oh my goodness!
Look at that! We did it!
Oh my gosh!
I'm gonna cut another slice so we get a better view.
We did it!
We gotta get a good up close of this inside of this cake.
Alright! I guess it's time to let the dogs try it.
Alright baby girl! Are you ready to try your cake?
Here you go!
Happy birthday Memphis!
How did I know you were just gonna inhale it?
Did you even taste it?
She's like, hmm... That's great! Can I have some more?
I mean, there's a whole other cake over here.
Did you... Was it good?
She's like, um... No, I didn't get a piece. Can I have another one?
I'll take this whole piece please! Thank you!
Alright ma'am! Here's your beautiful piece of cake!
Yeah? You think you're gonna just get it?
Sit down! Sit! You gotta sit!
Ready for this?
Here you go!
Let's see what you think!
Oh! Right for the middle, huh?
Middle piece first!
Yeah?
Is it delicious?
She's like, I never had a buttermilk cake before!
This is pretty good!
I think, Kira approves!
The most impatient dog is now ready for cake!
Are you ready?
Will you eat it off the plate or you gonna pick the whole thing up and put it on the table?
Alright! You can take it out of your way!
Alright! Sit!
Sit! Thank you!
Okay! Ready? Leave it!
Ah! This one's gonna be really hard!
Leave it!
Okay! Take it!
Hey! This time she at least ate it up here!
She didn't take it down there and take it apart!
You can slow down... Okay!
I say, you could slow down a little bit!
She's like, no! No thanks!
Was it good?
She's like, I'm still eating it!
Hold on! I gotta eat the green piece!
Was it delicious?
She's like, hmm! That's a pretty good birthday cake!
Alright! What did you girls think?
Was that the best birthday cake you ever had Memphis?
