Mazurka in F♯ minor, Op. 59, No. 3, the final piece in the set, refers to the oberek, a fast Polish national dance. The piece begins with a memorable and powerful melody; the second theme is more joyful. The left-hand accompaniment experiments with descending chromatic harmonies, though this does not affect the melody, which remains clearly defined throughout.
